Quick Disconnects Worth The Extra $

So i'm not sure if this is where this would go, i guess it would go here because im only asking for TJs....

what is the point of quick discos? never had a problem with flex so why should i spend 60 dollars on a set?

The point is in the name, to quickly disconnect the swaybar. If you haven't disconnected the swaybar then you've had a problem with the flexing.

Disco the anti-sway bar results in more flex. Quick disconnects allow this to be done more easily. If your type of wheeling doesn't require more flex, don't worry.

IMHO its worth it. Beats the heck out of sitting there for 10 minutes taking the stock bolts loose everytime you want to disconnect. I have enjoyed my wheeling trips disconnected more. If you dont have the extra money, there are threads about making your own.

oh and for the moeny, I like the RE Gen II discos.

As stated, disconnecting the swaybar allows for more movement of the front axle.

Here are some pics of the swaybar disconnected, you can see how much downtravel it allows for. Obviously different suspension systems allow for more or less travel.

running with the anti-sway bar disconnected makes a huge difference when crawling over things.

Quick disconnect make the task of disconnecting them easier.

If your Jeep is not lifted then its easy enough to make them. There is a write up at using clevis pins @ http://www.4x4xplor.com/homediscos.html

Personally I made a set using:
  • 2 - 1/2" hitch pins
  • 2 - 1/2" shaft colars
  • 2 - grade 8 ring pins
  • 4 - grade 8 1/2" washers
They work great and cost be about $12 at TSC - way easier then getting the bolts out every time.

Don't cobble together some discos like this. Either spend the money on proper ones or try your hand at making an aftermarket one with hardware supplies.

These are ingenious.

Yeah, those are nice.

Running disconnected is the way to go. This was a lot steeper than it looks in the picture. It's good to be able to keep all four tires in contact with the ground. Most of the time, any way.

These are ingenious.
My "cobbled up" set cost me about $7 and have been working fine for about a year and a half without any problems. The only issue is on a very bumpy road I sometimes hear a bit of rattle. When I have an extra $140 bucks I'll buy some proper disco's, but until then, I saved $133.

I did the 'cobbled up' version per the 4x4xplor.com write-up and had good success for a while. But now I've been running with the front disconnected, full-time, for the past year. Never had a problem on-highway or off. Running 2" BB, 1"BL, on 32s. Some people have problems, some don't. Not that I'm advocating safety-ignorance, but for me and some others, it doesn't present a problem.

Hollister. It's a pretty popular spot, just under truck hill.
