If I fold the passenger seat forward with no rear seat installed; I can lay flat in a sleeping bag with the tailgate closed in my LJ. I am 5'9" tall. I do have to shuffle or unload the rest of the gear though. Great for that one night fishing trip or such.

I'd definitely appreciate seeing pictures when you get the chance. I think I may end up just building an enclosure but I'd like to see what the Instatrunk looks like installed.

And back to the original point of this thread I've only had my LJ for a couple of weeks but I'm already appreciative of the extra storage space. The last three vehicles I've owned were two a Subaru WRX wagon, a Subaru Legacy GT wagon, and a Comanche with a camper shell so I'm also used to having plenty of space to haul stuff in the back of vehicles.

I was able to move mine back about 8 inches. take the seat off, un bolt the two rails the seat attaches to, and slide them both backwards about 6-8 inches until the bolt holes match up with the nutserts in the floor of the tub. I had to cut the carpet about an inch for it to matc up with out it being skiwamped... then bolt it in, and tadaaa someone 6 foot tall can sit back there and have plenty of leg room!!! theres about as much room behind the seat as a regular tj, maybe a tad bit more though. worth it... yes if you drive with people back there, and the space behind the seat isnt lots more than the tjs but its a jeep- and now peeps can sit back there comfortably. and if you need that extra room, just pull the seat and put it in your living room as a bench till you need it for passengers.

Ill add pics tonight.

I moved mine back 3" by making a template of the holes on the track (they are offset from eachother just a bit) and drilling new holes. Worked wonders and I love it!!

As someone who went from a 97 TJ to a 05 LJ, I can say that the increased rear room is greatly appreciated. Taking the time to move the rear seat rails slightly further back could also beneficial in your situation, I removed my rear seat to install a Tuffy rear deck enclosure.

Are the seat belt latches still long enough to come up through the seat and be buckled?

yes, but barely... you could easily make a bracket that movesit back or put a hole and bolt it down.

it is a little better moving it back. people can maneuver back there a little easier and not have to hit their knees on the chairs in front of them.

I guess was just trying to utilize the extra space of the LJ. if i wanted people to hit their knees on the seats, i woulda stuck with the TJ.
(although, i did love the turning radius my tj had)

I wouldnt move the seat further back than what i have or the lap restaints on the shoulrder belts wont really sit at your lap, theyd be more in front of your waist almost on top of your thighs. safety would be my concern if moving it further than i have.

Not looking really, just dreaming and planning. I'm planning for it to be my next Jeep. For now, I'm gonna rock my TJ. It's tiny, but its not really often that I take the family in it anyways, only when I really want to. I'd like to have a destination/expedition style rig eventually though, and a LJ would probably be the smallest that would work.
Anyways, ya I'll definitely be checking out the inside of your sweet Rubi next time we go wheeling!
