Question - Check engine light

I've recently bought an '02 4cyl Wrangler. After noticing my check engine light on I found that my gas cap was loose. Assuming this is the only issue, what is the cheapest way to get the light off? Will it shut itself off over time? Will unhooking the battery reset the computer? And more importantly, will fixing this on my own show up in a future diagnostic and void my Limited Drive Train Warranty? Any help is appreciated.....thanks.

Disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes.

Take it to you local Autozone. They will scan the computer for FREE and tell
you what the problem(s) that caused the light to go on.
They can also turn the light off too.

Of course if there is still a problem the light will be back on in a while.
