Put my RE 2"BB on, JUST got done, 2am! :) Problem??

Hey guys. I got bored and decided to put my lift on tonight. I started at 11:00 pm and got done jutst now at 2am. Took me about 3 hours total. Now I have some problems.

First of all, Its a 2"bb with OME shocks. and keep in mind I DID NOT get an alignment yet, i am going to go tomorrow morning.

Anyway, to the problem.

I get in the car, back out of my garage where I did the work, and then I put the car into drive (its an automatic) when i start to hit the gas pedel slowly, I hear a loud "click click click click click" until i gain a little bit of speed. It feels and sounds like its coming from the front of the car, right under the gas pedel.

What could this be? Will the alignment I will get tomorrow fix this? Please let me know before I go out and drive and something bad happenes

Thanks guys!

I will post pics after the aliognment tomorrow!

After i installed my 2" BB i had to bend the rear most exhaust hanger. The tailpipe was hitting against the gas tank skid. I know you said it sounded like it was in the front and it was more of a clicking sound, but it it might be worth a look.

Have you looked into doing the alignment yourself? It's easy, below are a couple write ups.

Look forward to seeing the pictures.

It does sound like something is hitting, i can't describe the sound, but clicking is the best i could describe. Ill check that out, i was playing with the tailpipe, so that could be it. It still feels like its coming from the front or directly under my driver seat, I could be wrong.

The front also sags a little, im kinda disapointed in that.

You said the front sagged, did you leave the factory coil isolater on? As far as the clicking I would just check to amke sure all bolts and nuts are tightened and then get someone to lay beside the jeep to listen for the noise.

Yes I left everything on that was originally on except for the shocks of course. You can drastically tell that the front is sagging. The headlights are actually pointed twords the ground a lot now, its pretty bad.

As for the noise. everything seems to be tightened and ive driven about 100 miles today and everything seems to work. I will tomorrow wen i have some time check out the noise.

ion the mean time, anyone have any ideas?

Check to make sure that the drive shaft isn't rubbing on the transfer case skid plate. If it is, remove the bolts for the skid (one at a time) and add a couple of washers between the skid and the frame. I think about 2-3 does the trick, if this is the problem.

If you left the rear spring isolators in you could remove those to level out your rig.

I installed mine and had no problems, didn't even need an alignment. Even if you did need one, it's only a "toe" adjustment since your caster will not change or your camber (solid axle thing).

As for the clicking noise under the gas pedal, I can't think of any moving part in that immediate area. For the exception of your dust sheild for your drivers side brake. Make sure it's not bent or nothing is caught in there, making it rub against the rotor. You could also check the drive line to the front shaft, but it's long enough to where 2" doesn't change it that much.......the angle only changes like 1/2" or close to it.

I wouldn't add washers to your tcase plate, it defeats the purpose of the gained clearance from the lift. Looks goofy too.

My worthless .05

Keep us posted.

It sounds like something is rubbing (comparing the sound to what it sounded like when my tires rubbed) Im not too sure what it could be, but I will check it out once the rain stops heh.

Here are some after pics.

The pictures don't justify the droop (not like thats a good thing lol) I will probally just leave it. I am just worried once I take off the hardtop and put a winch on the front, it will look funny. I guess I could add some spacers on the front, right? Would that be safe?

Thanks guys.

If anything from the picture, it looks like the back is lower than
the front. I've been following this thread closely because that's the exact lift combination that I ordered and will put on this summer. Did you have any trouble installing the OME shocks?

Also, how do you like the OME shocks? How does the ride compare to stock?

I had no trouble installing the shocks, just make sure when you do, you have some long ratchet extensions, a lot of tight places. For the front passenger side shock, you have tot ake out your air box, which is very simple, to access the hole to the shock nuts.

All of the bolts came out easy except the front, top, two shock bolts. Make sure you PB blast them for days. I had to cut the bolts off with my dremel, thank god I had it.

As for the shocks, the ride is nice. Very close to the stock ride, probally mainly because I am just using the same coils with spacers and not new coils.

Other then the problem thats going on, the jeep rides great. I just have to figure out whats going on because it becaoms serious.

Just a question to Shoe or Kaybone, Where did you guys order your set up from and what was the price range. I've seen prices for the RE 2" BB w/out OME shocks for $200 was this around what you guys paid for yours?

Thanks

my guess is that the problem is from the the increased angle on rear drive shaft. The u-joints are binding up a little bit. Its very common. Your options are a transfer case drop or a SYE kit. Since its only a BB lift you can prolly just put a couple of washers between the transfer case skid and the frame. After a while the springs will sag so bad it won't matter anyway. However, when you take the hard top off the back end will rise up and causing the angle to increase again. You will just have to wait till then to see if it comes back in which case you can either put in more washers, get some real spacers, or spend the money and get and SYE and CV drive shaft.

good choice with the OME's.
