pulling a boat

Was wondering if anyone pulls a boat with their Jeep. I am in the market for something along the lines of a bowrider, in other words something small. My only concern is whether or not my Jeep can pull it.

It has the 4.0 5 speed. I am trying to stay below 2,500 lbs with the boat and trailer.

I wouldn't. Due to its short wheelbase, a TJ's max realistic safe tow rating is only 2,000 lbs. It has enough power and braking but, and I've been towing boats for 30+ years, 2500 lbs. would be pushing it. And that's if you could even find a bowrider 2500 lbs. or under when you add in the trailer, gas, gear, etc..

So in other words I hit the highway and the boat may just end up pulling me.

I have actually found quite a few. However, good point with the added weight with fuel, didnt think of that.

Yep, when that happens a good phrase comes to mind... the tail wagging the dog.
