Has anyone had success running a PowerTrax No-Slip traction system in a 1997 front dana 30 or similar axle. The manufacturer discourages running this setup in a front axle unless it is a disconnect type or has lock-out hubs. The 97 d30 has neither so I am wondering if it is a good idea to run it on a daily driver. Any advise is appreciated.
I'm running that exact same combination and it is awesome. The TJ does not have any of the issues they're talking about where they warn against a front locker. In 2wd, you will not even know it's there, literally. It only locks up hard when you're in 4x4 and even then it still turns fine, with just a little increased steering radius. The ONLY time it could be an issue is there in Illinois if you had to run 4Hi on an icy or snow-covered road where it can cause understeer. But in 2wd, it'd be a non-issue.
Close, but not as quiet. The Aussie and Lockrite are on even footing so far as all characteristics go but the No-Slip is a little better behaved without any of the minor clicking etc. you'll get from an Aussie or Lockrite. Personal experience with all three of them.
If you live in Alaska and drive in snow you may want an ARB or OX up front from what I understand, I haven't seen snow in years myself, haha. Offroad it still nice ot have hubs to unlock, but you get use to it.
I agree with Jerry. Pay the extra and get the best. Right now in Ohio we are in a blizzard and I made it home last night in 4HI no problem. If you are going 45 in 4Hi something is wrong! I’ve had mine for two years never had a problem.
