From looking at carnage pictures, they usually snap close to the neck where the splines end.

I know of 2 TJs that ran lock-rights on stock D35s, and they were fine. I'm sure the Superior shafts will hold up well (to easy-moderade use, no trail bashing).

That sounds like an economical and reasonable approach to me. Superior shafts are $99 on Morris 4x4.

I think you would be fine with the superior shafts as long as you stick to 33s.

Interestingly enough, based solely on cross section area and the yield stress differences, a 27 spline 4340 superior evo shaft is about the same strength as a stock d44 shaft.

If anything, I would think you would break the stock carrier or damage the housing itself.

Edit: Holy cow, Just realized this is an old as dirt thread. how did that happen?

I still have questions about a the no-slip. In a front HP D30, will the front stock axles snap when the locker engages while trailing on 33's? Also, is it absolutely necessary to remove the carriers in the d30 and rear d44 w/ trak-lok carrier?

Hi All,

Great Thread!

Although not a Jeep question, I hope you can help out.

If I install a locker in my 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis (I think it has 8.8"/28 spline diff) will I break my stock axles?

Pry bar probably wasn't the best way to remove the carrier but to each his own. Good write up. Eventually I'll go with a no slip in the rear as I don't feel like replacing the aussie up front . Those springs are beefy as hell.
