Power Steering Pump Pulley Removal
Got some more problems. I was replacing my water pump and noticed that the power steering pump pulley was chipped to hell and had a crack in it so it needed to be replaced. I rented a pulley puller from advanced but it was a piece of junk and didn't sit right.
It was such a bad fit that it didn't remove the pulley, but broke it
as well as part of the lip that it's supposed to connect to.
So I decided this piece of junk needs to go and return it. Next stop: O'Reiley's. They had a puller and installer kit that you would expect to find.
Return home to finally finish the damn job and guess what happens.
Yep, due to the broken and bent lip from the other puller it did the task of ripping the lip completely off
So my question is, short of taking a dremel to it or replacing the pump, what are my options?
Thanks

Don't even screw with it. I've got at least 10 power steering pumps laying around here collecting dust. If you don't mind paying shipping, you are welcome to one. We can get it out tomorrow, complete with reservoir if you wish.

seems like the puller may even fit on that next rib........
I had a P.O.S. puller once from Autozone it was "OEM" brand. The treads stripped on the press tool pretty easy.
I had better luck with an OTC brand kit.

Tried, but the flat part of the puller won't fit because it's so far back.

Similar Power Steering Pulley problem
I was surprised to find the pulleys are plastic; I bought a new pump and when installing the new pulley, I cracked the new plastic pulley. Now I have to pull off the cracked pulley from the new pump, buy another pulley, and then figure out how to install the new one right. Advanced Auto wanted $99 deposit to rent one. I like SnapOn but I don't know which one. Might have to go to Harbor Freight, couple miles away, for $13 though. (HF AC gauge set just BROKE first time I used it! The high pressure hose fitting FAILED and the hose whipped around! Don't quite trust HF yet). Do you know which SnapON puller/installer fits? Cherokee 2000 4.0 6!

Hahaha! I know the feeling. When I had to replace my pump, I tried it all to remove the OEM pulley, and I did the same thing destroyed the whole pulley etc.. From what I observed I could not find a clam shell type pulley tool that would get a good bite under the pulley lip to pull off that sucker. So I went to harbor freight and bought a cheap kit. dremaled down the clam shell and it still could not pull it off. the lip broke on the pulley center piece. So I just bought a new pump and new pulley and used the tool to press the new stuff together.

Ha! That's interesting the Genright CNC'd aluminum anodized pulley, looks cool. The 10% overdrive wasn't something I was expecting; I do my share of highway driving but also some West Virginia steep stuff. I wouldn't say most of my driving was off road. Maybe I will ask Genright. It would be nice to have some metal. The "existing" old pulley, also has a divot cracked off (not by me, just the way it is, it works on the car) on what I would call the outside flange, a chunk is missing. Interesting, the plastic looks like it has several layers. It's engineered plastic but still....you know, "plastic pulleys" you've got to be kidding! Saved 0.1 gallons of gas because of light weight in 100,000 miles I suppose. Progress: I've ordered online a new pulley removal and installer so have to wait a day or so for them to arrive, will try to snap a pix for others also, thanks. I understand the lip broke at the hub, JWebber, got it........

Yo Bros...you can buy a new steering pump pully.......Dorman makes em...AND...when taking the pully off...if it is somewhat stuck...spray the face with WD....install the puller, put pressure on it, then after about 5 min...smack the end with a hammer. The shock usually breaks the pully free....
