Post-wheeling, trans problem? help.

Well my first wheeling experience went pretty well today, lots of sandy mud and deep water crossings.

As we are on the way out of the park, I notice that the jeep starts to buck, studder in a way, as if i was letting go of the gas and then punching it while its in the same gear.

As i get on the highway, its more noticeable, each gear.. not everytime, but on occassion.

1st gear through 5th, heavy throttle or light throttle, i get the buck usually in a sequence of 3. feels like throttle, quickly off the throttle, and bam back on it again.

I did get water in the distributor cap, i did have water coming over the hood in some points, but i cleaned the distributor cap and sprayed it.

Only other symptom related to this problem is it has an inconsistent/rough idle, sometimes dipping low as 300 rpms, sometimes normal.

This bucking/spuddering/kicking does not happen

-While not on the accelerator
-While in neutral revving

It happens
-In 4wd, hi and low
-In 2wd
-No matter what speed or how much throttle is given.

And i have no idea on how or what to diagnose this problem as, i am going to flush the tranny, change the diffs.. but i just dont know if this is a tranny problem, a problem with my plugs getting damp or moist maybe and i need to replace them, if its a problem with my rear.

Please help, this is very frustrating as I had to limp home 2 hours today.

Did you get some mud or something on the clutch?

highly unlikely, i only depressed the clutch once on accident when i got into a sticky situation, could be the problem.. but how would that be.. it shifts fine, the clutch still grabs exactly the same, and the gear shifting is smooth.

im thinking the distributor cap/wires/plugs got wet and are crapping out.

did you get any odb2 codes? I had similar symptoms after a day of mudding, but I got an error code right away. P301 - cylinder 1 misfire, it turned-out to be a bad o2 sensor - I replaced all of them and after my last water/mud outing I had no problems

x2 on the o2 sensor. I stalled out in a deep crossing before and it ran rough, a surged a about 300 rpms some times. I got a check engine light that indicated o2 sensor.

it sounds more like the TPS (throttle positino sensor) has either gone bad or has gotten we and caused it to go bad.......when they freak out they don't really know what to tell the engine to do....usually resulting in something that looks like a noob trying to learn to drive a stick

i had a truck that did the exact same thing. were were playing in a creek in deep mud. i got out of the creek, and had that same problem. real hard bucking. it eventually died. it turned out that the rotor under the distributor cap was broken off just enough to screw it up.

It did throw a code. the code is 24 apparently.

I went on, off, on off, on off (not fully on) like your supposed to.

it went through the series of 111111 etc 22222 etc and then said 24 and my check engine (that came on while wheeling yesterday) was blinking while 24 was on. ill go try the codes again, you hold the odo and go on off on off on off(not fully on) corect?. any idear what 24 that means? im going to try to google it..
