polyurethane bushings?

so i called this place today to find out how much they charged for a 1" BL and install, but the guy tried to talk me into a polyurethane bushing kit that would lift my jeep up 1" as well and only cost $320 installed which was cheaper than the body lift. my question is what is this? ive never heard of it before.

$320 is cheaper than a body lift? Wow, I'm in the wrong business!!

You can buy a 1" body lift kit in the neighborhood of $100.00, and the install is VERY easy to do...taky you maybe an hour. Here is a write-up which illustrates: http://www.4x4xplor.com/bl.html

Also, I am assuming that the other thing he may be talking to you about is something like this: http://www.4x4xplor.com/REBB.html ...also a fairly easy install.

1" spacers will only cost you about 70. They are also very easy to install. Do it yourself.

So to actually answer your question.

There are basically to types of Body Lifts that I have seen.

One uses little metal or aluminum spacers or "pucks" and go in between your original rubber bushing and the body thereby giving you your lift.

The other style uses polyurethane bushings that completely replace the factory rubber bushing.

There are pros and cons to both, but basically comes down to personal preference.

wow.
I wouldn't pay $320 for an inch of lift. (Or even more for the other 1")
Not in this life.
If you are going to spend that kind of money, at least have it make a difference!
This is a great opportunity for you though - the 1" spring spacers are under 100 bucks. A 1" body lift is under 100 bucks. Save that 5-600 of labor and buy some tools. Those are both easy jobs to do yet real projects (not like sticking a flashlight bracket on the roll bar and calling it a "mod.") A great chance to start finding out that turning wrenches isn't rocket science - anyone can do it. You just might find out it's fun - it certainly brings that feeling of satisfaction knowing you did it yourself. HIghly recommended.
And you can always come here for help.

When I hear 'polyurethane bushing kit', it sounds more like one of those kits that replace the factory rubber bushings on the Jeep with stronger plastic ones, but it should be more expensive than that. At any rate, if you only want a 1" BL that's what you should get and there's no way you should pay $320 for one. We will all gang up and come to your house and pee on your tires if you pay that much for it It really is easy to do yourself but if you really don't want to, since you're in NC, if you feel like driving to Knoxville Tn, try these guys http://www.rockyour4x4.com, they'll do you right
