PICS- Jeep smashed into by Cady 1 hr. after 2" BB install -PICS
Spent all damn afternoon with my bro-in-law installing the Rubicon Express 2" BB only to get in a little fender bender on our test run. I was NOT HAPPY! Still, I don't think the accident is anything a good body shop can't fix (I hope...) There's a pic of the damage at the end of the album. I still need to flip some photos but at least the album is up for now. We got some good shots and all these were taken about an hour before I got smashed into by a 2004 Cady. That dudes car got F'd up... bottom of the car fell of, fluid leaking everywhere, entire front of car smashed in, parts of his car ALL over the road. All I got was a smashed bumperette, smashed fender flare and a bent rear corner. This all could have turned out much worse for both of us. ARGHG! Anyhow, here are the pics:

Just looks like minor damage but crazy thing is I can't get her to start now... there's also a lot of squeaking coming from the rear left wheel where I got hit. No logical reason why she won't start, went under there with a light and everything looks like it's in place...
I have the claims adjustor coming within the next 4 days (or so I'm told), so we'll see how much damage there really is.

Jafe man, that's exactly where i got hit and thats exactly the damage that happened to me and the other car's front end was totalled while mine held up like a tank. Mine would not start as well, the impact fried my distributor (go figure) so i had it replaced ($500 CAD) under warranty withought letting on i was in an accident.
Unfortunately i was not so lucky with my rear shaft as it was bent and i had to get that replaced as well as having the frame straightened out, and all this to a jeep that looked like it had no damage. My biggest regret was not putting in the superior 35 when i had the chance. Good luck bro, i feel for ya. |

advtj- PLEASE tell me they patched you up nice and your Jeep is good as new... I barely slept all night. Just replaying the accident in my mind. When you got hit did the impact spin you? I got partialy spun. Got hit HARD and I was lucky it was just the corner. From the force of the impact I really thought my entire left side was going to be F'd up. I was shocked when I got out to find such little visual damage. Like you said, I'm hoping my frame isn't bent...

Dude i spun from the road all the way into the plaza entrance. Looking at your pics again, im thinking maybe your ok if the wheel wasn't impacted as mine was. Your hit looks like the wheel might have been avoided by a hair so maybe your axle shaft wasn't affected, and compared to yours, my bumper wasn't affected, so considering you were hit further back about 6" from me, your frame might be ok as well but better to get that checked out.
My jeep was still new when it happened and i took it to a Chrysler dealership to get it fixed and it's as good as new, if not better after they fixed it as my alignment was shot from offroading anyways. , although i fixed the frame and shaft, i left the fender and wheelwell alone for lack of cash and never got around to fixing them, plus i tell people i incurred the damage on the trail hitting a tree (don't tell anyone) plus it looks cool. After the shock wairs off your gonna start thinking your jeep is never gonna be the same but trust me, it'll be good as new, so go back to sleep. |

That's great to hear that they patched you up well! My wheel was contacted slightly, there are scuffs on it but very minor scuffs at that. I got towed by my bro-in-laws Suburban back to his place just a few miles down the street and there was an audible squeaking sound coming from the wheel and it's kind going kathunk-kathunk as it turns. I'm hoping that the axle is fine too... so my damage is this from what I can tell:
- squeak and kathunk coming from rear driver side wheel, scuffs on wheel rear corner smashed under gas cap -bumperette and fender flare toast -won't start Other than that she's ok. Like I said it could have been a LOT worse. On top of that I'm glad that none of the things that we installed during the day were damaged at all from what I can see. You said you took your Jeep to the dealershiip... did they do the body work as well?

Funny thing is, i had no scuffs on the wheel, just a broken plastic centre cap off the cheapo SE rim, that's how i knew the wheel was hit. After i replaced the distributer it drove normally but the wheel didn't look quite right, it was really hard to tell until they pulled the shaft out and showed me it was bent. Even the dealership wasn't sure at first.
I also got rear corner smashed under gas cap (more like an indent and hardly noticeable) -didn't start, fender flare cracked wheelwell and body caved in I got the shaft replaced. straightened out the frame replaced my distributor but left the body and fender alone as it's hardly noticeable, to me anyway. The dealership out sourced it to one of there guys to do the work, and they (Chrysler) also quoted for the body work as well but i was more concerned with the axle and frame and not the cosmetics. I could have gone to their guy myself but would not have got the waranty on the axle work so i went through Chrysler, that was part of my reasoning for not getting the super 35 at the time. Did i mention i didn't get the Super 35 ![]() |

I don't know about Jeeps, but most cars have an impact sensor that has to be reset after its tripped. I think it shuts off the fuel supply. That may be why it won't start.

i dont believe jeeps have one, but dont quote me too that.....i know my first vehicle was a ford ranger and it had an impact sensor under the carpet on the passenger side....after an accident I was in the people at the tow yard said it needed to be towed to a garage because it wouldnt start....i reset the switch and it started right up, i still dunno if they were to dumb to know about the switch or if they were trying to hit me up for another tow..... |

I've been told by more than one person now that the Jeep does not have an auto cutoff for the fuel supply so I'm guessing that's not it. I'm having it towed to the dealership tomorrow and I'm letting them sort it out. OH, and my tires are 31x10.50 BFG AT's...

If you don't mind checking--what pressure do you have those tires aired too? I have the same ones and it looks like I'm way too low at at 33 PSI. Yours just look really good compared to mine.

What a bummer on the crash. On the no-start, my guess is something broke on the fuel pump, since it is located in the fuel tank right where you got hit.

Funny you should mention that Orrelse... last week I checked the tire pressure with a little handheld (you know, the kind with the thing on the end that pops out) and they read 35psi. I have no idea how that's possible because when I had the tires installed the guy told me that he was airing them up to 28psi. Odd.

Cool...Thanks....I wonder what the "recommended" pressure actually is? I'm gonna air mine up a bit more and see if it makes any difference. Thanks again...
