Pics of custom rear storage set ups.

Hey all I did a search for this but only came up with a amo can idea. I like it, but I was looking for something similar to Stu's set up.

Anyone else have some ideas and pics

I want to do something above the tub. ALA trail rack made from tubing, w/sides.
I have seen some that mount to the roll cage just above the body/(tub) in the rear cargo area.
(I removed my rear seat, belts and bracketry long ago.)

I prefer to build it myself as oposed to just purchasing it.

Dont mean to hijack, just adding and I'll watch this!

Here is what I have done. The rack is hinged so I can lift it up and down.

I used tweba99's as model. I used mdf (seemed as cheap as anything) then cut out the middle portion for a hatch. It just rests on the top of the wheel wells, the front is supported by a sub box and I have to 2x4's supporting the rear (need to change that to make it look nicer). I also carpeted it w/some indoor/outdoor carpet. When I get around to it, I'll actually bolt it to the wheel wells and possibly fill in the front, but you can't see that part unless the seats are folded forward. I just finished it last week and am pretty happy w/how it turned out, considering this is my first attempt at woodworking. Plus, I wanted to spend my money on other projects.

I like the look of Igofshn's model but I would move it up above the sides of the tub.

I also like rioshilo, from the link but I would need to add sides to both for when I am out wo/ the top in the summer.

Great pics guys!!!

ok I think I have settled on a design

I'm going to make an X out of tubing

it will be welded or bolted to the four vertical roll bars in back

it will be just high enough where I can fit a duster on the rear cargo area. This will allow me to run my Bikini/windjammer/duster combo still

kinda like this but with the tire up top

yeah I know.......COG.........but I cant have a tire on the rear.......not with the stuff I drop off of.

what do you guys think?

I like the above metals ones, however I can't weld so I built mine out of wood. I was on a tight budget so I went with some cheap wood. However if I was doing it again I would've spent the extra 20 bucks or so to get some nice particle board. The total cost came to approx 60 bucks.

I used 2x3s to build the frame. They slide-outs you can get at home depot or lowes in the hardware section. Their the 24" heavy duty ones. The box is approx 30 width x 24 long. I'm planning on placing 2 10" subs in the space in front of the box. You could make the box longer but I couldn't find any slide-out things long enough.

Mine was done that way to hold the spare down. It is perfect height for a 35x12.50 spare. The spare fits perfectly in the bed.
