Pics/advice for LED tails
I am about the make the jump to LEDs. Any of you guys have a good source for LEDs with the reverse and side marker built in? How was the install? Got any pics? How are they holding up? Thanks in advance.

Depends on the look you're going for. If you want flush mount, QT/4WD both have some options. If you want to maintain something more along the lines of the stock lights, same sources have good options. I personally installed the Crystal Eyes LED Tail lamps - incredibly easy install: Mounted to the stock holes, wiring matched stock and didn't require the dreaded flasher fix. Loved them, until half the bulbs of one lamp went out and I'd have to spend another $200 for a new set... Seems like most jeep marketed lights have that whole cost issue.
My advice would be to convert to flush mount round LEDs - it's a bit of modification and body work on the jeep, but there is no shortage of great writeups and if blubs start burning out you can get replacements for $15 from a truck supply store. stu-offroad.com has a great install write up, or just run a search for it- Just a thought. |

yeah flush mounts are pretty cheap price wise but for most you have to do a little bit of cutting and stuff to make them fit. Personally i have oro litdots and love them. They look real nice and were easy to install. They arent cheap though.

Doing mine right now .. installs not bad if you buy the right sized hole saw.. i bought one about a quarter of an inch too small so ive been reaming the holes out with a dremel.
Get your lights from a trucking company, theyre usually better quality and you can get them for way cheap from their parts department. My .02 Luke

hmmm.... I'm a vendor for all things LED.
LiteDOTs: http://www.4x4led.com/stt/litedots.htm Flasher: http://www.4x4led.com/tips-flashers.htm 4": round, and many more: The 4" lights I sell are some of the better quality ones (and a name brand) not the generic no name brands that some other online stores sell http://www.4x4led.com/stt/litedots.htm Note: when doing a flush (recessed) mounted 4" on 02 and newer TJs, some mods are required to the evap canister mounting location. http://www.stu-offroad.com/engine/evapcan/evapcan-1.htm

The evap thing is on 03 and up
www.vehiclelight.com a few options on there. I have their 44 LED stop/turn/tail. If you go with flush mounts or flange mount you will have to get some kind of back up light.

I'd stick with the recessed truck lights; cheap, easy to replace if needed and a snap to install. The best part about going with the truck lights is there are literally thousands of trucks on the road running them, so you can get an idea of brightness and desired look (rubber gromet or trim ring mount/ # of LED's and layout of LED's inside lights).
I stared at every truck I passed looking at the lights until I found the one I wanted. Then I just simply stopped by two different truck stops looking for the lights (ended up getting mine at a Pilot gas station). I think the total price for light/gromet/pig-tail was like just shy of $40.00 bucks. Pretty cheap considering the hole saw was $42.00 bucks . But hey, now I've got a 4.5 hole saw if I ever need itAs far as the LED relay... Two different options are available; the EP-26 (4-pin) and the 5-pin LED flasher (I've totally forgotten the shop I got it from, but it was from a gentleman the posts here.. good guy and great shipping.. little plug for him). I have never seen a recessed truck light with back-ups built in. I know there are probably some out there, just saying that I have never seen them. I went with the truck foglights as backup lights. When doing the wiring, it's pretty simply to drop the hot and ground down for the lights. Finding a suitable mounting location is dicy if you don't have a bumper built for foglights. What's nice about the truck foglight is it's a rubber housing and a complete sealed beam light snapped into it. So if something did happen to that light all it would take is for me to stop by the truck stop and spend 8.00 bucks on a new sealed beam and I'd be back in business. Regular foglights come in sets, so if you shattered one, you'd be buying a new set just to preplace that one.

![]() http://www.links4jeeps.com/writeups/ledtaillights/ Im running ******* Tail lights myself. The brand up above mentioned by deltabravo should work just fine. Just make sure you cut your hole smaller and work it larger. Nothing is worse than seeing an LED loose in the hole. ![]() |

Let me know if you guys can answer me this. I put the gen-right leds on the front of my rig and did the flasher fix (97) and everything worked fine, now i just added 4" recessed leds in the rear and now my flashers still work fine with engine running lights off but when i turn my head lights on my turn signals don't work, but then if i put a load somewhere....like turn on the blower on full or turn on my off road lights they will flash once or twice. Its really wierd....i have tried a couple resistors on the ground side of my tail light circuit and that didn't help either...let me know if you guys know anything
