The PERFECT TJ Repower

This is not a funny thread but a fun thread. Keep replies fun and interesting.

If you could/have repower a TJ. What engine, transmission, transfer case, would you use. There are stipulations!

Must be doable. (no v-10's or jet engines, maintain the original TJ body.)

Must show some "budget restraint". (no twin turbo'ed nitrous setups)

Must be a daily driver. (15-100 mpg)

Must be a weekend toy. (able to wheel at least average trails)

Must be built to last. (must provide years of enjoyment with minimal wrenching, this has to get you to work tomorrow morning)

Must be current technology. (no flux-capacitors)

Some extention of the wheelbase will be allowed but remember to keep the TJ body stock, save for some fender clearance (of course)

This should be fun. I want to hear ALL ideas. If you think a 1.8 turbo from a VW Beetle would be cool, let's hear how you would do it. Same with a Mercedes deisel, how would YOU do it?

I want to hear of vtecs and marine engines and almost EVERYTHING else. LET YOUR IMAGINATION GO CRAZY.

5.3 or 6.0, NV4500, Atlas. I already have 2 out of the three.

Stock AMC 242. Superchips, K&N, throttle spacer and Borla cat back. Any ideas on what headers to run?

Mercedes CRD from a liberty, auto trans, atlas t-case. Low end torque, top end power, fuel mileage - this has it all.

The diesel liberty used an Italian motor. The only similarity between that Jeep and the diesel grand which does have the Mercedes 3.0 is the CRD moniker.

Now if I could have the 3.0 diesel that is in my grand in my TJ....

4.0 I6 stroked to 4.7 with the new style intake - port matched 62 mm throttle body.

Looks stock, heaps of torque for off roading work - could get about 20 mpg.

Yes, the 3.0 CRD from the grand would be awesome!! Didn't know about the liberty having a pizza and pasta fetish
