Penetrol Help

Hey there....i took the tip and bought some penetrol last night to do my fender flares. I used a 2'' utility paintbrush to apply it, and painted it right on. It looked like there were a bunch of little tiny bubbles while i was applying it, kinda looked like dirt/sand was sticking to it but i think it was just the bubbles. While it was drying it was sticky like its supposed to be, and i waited about an hour for them to dry. They werent looking too good while drying, then i had to go home ( was doing it at a friends house) so i had to drive while they were still wet so, needless to say they got dirt and stuff stuck in them, are streaked, and some spots seem shinier than others. I thought this stuff was NOT supposed to be shiny/look painted, cause i wanted the factory look and just a base black. Also, after a whole day in the sun they still seem wet, like if i push hard it leaves fingerprints, and they arent smooth. I cant even imagine what water/washing them will do. So, how can i fix them and why wont the stuff dry all the way? I guess i need to re do them, but gotta get rid of the sand/grit. Thanks for the help!

Eeee-gad! I wish you had posted before doing them! What I found here was this:

1. Follow directions (if you're gonna) for RV Plastic...the last set of directions on the back of the can.

2. If you're gonna wing it: Put Penetrol ona rag, wipe on. Wait about 5 minutes or so. Wipe off. This is what gives you that look, and allows it to dry.

I have no idea how to start from scratch, but if you're going to, that's the way you might want to do it next time.

I used paper towels, and it was dry within an hour.

Good luck.

I don't know for sure, but I'd bet that if you took a good lint free cloth and used it to wipe on the penetrol, it would take off some of the residue from your last application. I used a rag to do mine and they turned out fine.

You dont need a paintbrush to put this stuff on, it is real simple. Simply put it on a paper towel and wipe it along your flares. Thats it.
