I installed them myself. This was my first. Be careful when tightening up the caliper bolts that you don't strip them out. Other than that it was pretty easy. Here is one of many tech articles you can find online:
http://www.stu-offroad.com/siteindex.asp Go the the front disk brake overhaul. Stu has lots of other helpful tech articles as you can see on this link.

Great thread.

The braking on my 06 LJ is pretty horrible in my opinion. I've been contemplating changing out the rotor (supposedly warped already with 18k on them).

Is there any real advantage to installing on of the larger disc kits? Or would some good qualilty rotors and pads be just as good?

If you're staying stock, quality rotors and the EBC yellow pads will do fine. If you're going to upgrade tire size, maybe not so fine.

Some of the best pads I have ever used are hawk Hps pads there better than ebc imo and start around 80 bucks.

If you want to have great brakes, you should go straight to the Vanco Raptor kit. Search for 'Vanco' and read up.

You have done a direct comparison to the EBC Yellow's and that experience leads you to say these Hawk pads are better?

Can you lock up the front brakes now? Are you planning on upgrading your Jeep in the future with larger tires and armor? The way I see it is spending ~$220 on quality rotors and pads is $220 that can go towards a Vanco kit.

I put a Vanco 16" kit on my stock ZJ recently. Here is the review if you would like to read it. I have no regrets with the kit and would do it again. Personally I think the stock brake design is crap, and should have been updated 10 years ago like other manufacturers.

I've done that comparison and if the YELLOW EBC's are a 10 on a 10 scale, the Hawk HPS are a 3, maybe a 4, but no more.

My bad - I should have specified. 4" lift with 33" on 16" stock rims. some armor and bumpers in the future.

If you've got the 15" kit from Van, I have a set of Hawk HPS and their better Super Duty pads I will send you to do some testing with.

You won't like them, but at least you'll be able to speak from a point of experience. And no, you don't get to return them when you're done with them.

Ha! Your testing is good enough for me. No way I'm taking those Yellows out of my Vanco kit.

I'm guessing the poster above likes the Hawks better than the EBCs because he bought the Hawks.
