P0740 TCC Enable Solenoid Circuit Electrical - Engine Code Problem

I'm fighting another engine code now.... P0740 TCC Enable Solenoid Circuit Electrical - TCC is torque converter clutch.

I'm guessing this is something I cant fix... Any chance this code could be from low fluid or something like that? I know I'm grasping here...

I just need to pass smog so I can register my dang Jeep!!!

Any info would be great... THANKS!!!

Check the torque converter's electrical connection on the driver's side rear of the transmission. It's the smaller connector of the two back there. Does your torque converter lock up once you get up to speed? It should feel like it is shifting into a "forth" gear as the rpms drop slightly. Of course I would check your tranny fluid too. Have the engine running and warmed up, then shift through all the gears and leave the shifter in Neutral to check the ATF level. Make sure the parking brake is on of course.

Fluid is fine... It does feel weird when I get up to 55mph or higher... I'm going to go check the wire right now...

BTW... About a month ago my tranny started screaching, it would drive. I was able to get it home. I didn't drive it after that, I changed the fluid. Everything seemed fine after that...

This was the same time I got the 0122 TPS code. Now the only code I get is the 0740 code.

I changed the TPS and it seems to run better, then today I got the 0740 code when I got on the freeway... This was the 1st time I got it up to 60mph...

I hope that all made some sense.... THANKS!!!

Should this cause my Jeep to fail its smog test?

Well... It Failed Emissions!!! What A Pain!!! It could be just a wiring problem or the solenoid or a tranny replacement!!! This was the info I could find on the net... It's hard to trust any shops or the dealer to work on it... This Stinks!!!

i had that same code pop up a week ago , i checked my tranny fluid and it was over filled by 1-1.5 quarts so i drained it to where it was right. I also disconnected the battery so the light would shut off and since it hasnt come back , but i dont know if the problem was solved

Didn't realize you had two threads on this so I posted in the other one...

If it's not electrical in nature, or the fluid level is wrong, it may be time for a new torque converter. Also, the PCM looks at coolant temp and throttle position. This code is considered to be emissions control so it may cause you not to pass.
