P0442, P0455 error codes, help please

The check engine light keeps coming on and off as it pleases and those codes keep coming up when I do the 3 key turn trick. What do they mean? I think I remember reading that the P0455 was due to the fact that the gas cap wasnt on right. But if thats the case, then why would the check engine light come on when I'm driving on the highway? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Thanks for the link. So are they both dealing with a loose gas cap or might there be something else?

an evap leak is a pita to diagnose if it's not your gas cap or a blatant crack or hole. my shop got a 3500 dollar snap on smoke machine because of all the evap work we were getting. I'd recommend a dealer or a well equipped shop if you know one.

An '04 rubi shouldn't that still be under warranty? There are several things that can flag those codes. Most often it's a loose or poor sealing gas cap. Other things could be a leaking/sticky valve on the canister valve, purge valve, or any other valves they put in the system. Also a faulty fuel tank pressure sensor, if so equiped, or a leaking canister or hoses. Every vehicle is different, and there are many designs of onboard leak detection. Just throwing parts at it is not the answer. It won't damage anything to drive it; it's a way for the vehicles to recycle the fuel vapors in the tank rather than venting it to the atmosphere.
