P*ss poor gas mileage

Jeez,

Drove from Columbus, IN to Columbus, OH Saturday and got piss poor gas mileage for stragiht interstate use. 14 MPG!! She is only getting around 215 a tank on highway before gas light comes on and about 180 in town. Should I take it back and have them check the sensors. Seems to me like the AFR (air fuel ratio) is way off and it has gradually gotten worse since I bought her. 6500 miles on the ODO BTW.

Thanks Kris

With a combination of Highway and City Driving, I usually am at around 180 when the gas light comes on. Ive learned to suck it up and live with it.

Your big tires aren't helping you any though.

Wow. Mine is more like 280, no kidding. On long trips I set the cruise at 78 and get a little over 14. In normal country road driving, about 60, I get close to 18.

That seems low. How many gallons are you putting in when you fill up? I think the TJ has a 19 gallon tank. At 15 gallons X 15 miles per gallon you should be able to go at least 225 miles and still have quite a bit of fuel left over.

I am jealous - I am getting about 9 MPG highway (with 35's). NY traffic does not help any either though.

When was your last tune up? How many miles on the spark plugs? Maybe its time to change em'. I was getting like 250 miles per tank and now am getting closer to 275 after the plug change and tune up.

I have a four banger with stock 30s and take it on trips from cleveland to south carolina and get 14 mpg. It sucks, but you deal with it. If you actually go the speed limit you get a little better mileage, but who goes the speed limit.

It's a 2004 with 6k miles. A tune up is not going to do a thing. The mileage you are getting is normal for your jeep. i have the same thing but an automatic and see even less than you for mileage. either learn to live with it or get a new car. i was a little upset at first but learned to live with it. Take my word , Nothing you do will get you a noticable gas increase.

That's not right. Head for the stealership. There has to be a part under warranty that's not doing it's job.

I get 13 in the city and 17 on the freeway...and I am carrying a ton of weight in armor and tires. Before my build it was getting 15 and 20.

Heh, I'm happy with the milage. Compared to some vehicles (especially other 4x4's) this is quite good

Yeah I will probably let the dealership look at it it just seems that the sticker say 19 and it gets around 14 something ain't right. Plus the gas mileage has gotten worse since I first got it.

You might as well bring it in - it won't cost you anything. Let us know what they find.

I know I was suprised when I first got my Jeep and I was getting about 14 MPG. After my first tune-up the technician said it was running normal. Now I tune-up my Jeep myself. I have since put on the lift on which worsens the already poor aerodymanics. Heavier tires, bumpers and skids did not help either. It is not a daily driver so the gas milage is not a big deal anyways.
