OX Locker in D35c
Anyone here running an OX in a D35c? What are the known problems. I have heard that the square block in the middle of the OX that holds the Cclips is prone to breaking. Any info would be great.
Thanks

Avoid installing any kind of a locker into a Dana 35c axle which simply is not strong enough to withstand the doubled stress a locker causes. The weakness is not in the c-clip area, the weakest points that cause the most problems are the axleshafts themselves. They tend to snap in half, allowing the wheel and broken half of the axleshaft to slide out of the housing.

They make an OX for the 35? Why?

They make a 27 spline version for the Dana 35.
Maybe with stock size tires and chromoly 27 spline axles, but I wouldn't trust it...

I know two guys that both run OX's without any issues. Of course they know the rear is waiting to explode, but as well drive responsibly enough.
The only problem either have had is adjusting the cable, which isn't hard once you tinker with it. |

Any automatic locker would mate well with a 30 spline Super or Grande kit. 27 splined shafts are best kept to limited slips on 31" tires, while 32-33" tires are somewhat safer with 27 splined chromoly shafts.

While the d35 in the TJ is a c-clip type, i dont believe it is the D35c. The D35c is used in the WJ and the "C" doesnt stand for c-clip.. FYI

I have S35 with Ox locker.
As far as the cable adjustment wise, I have no idea why people say it is hard to adjust. It is more of a hassle than hard to do. I found my sweet spot as stated in the manual and it worked out at the first try. I installed mine; dropped the cover about 4+ times, I didn't have to re-adjust the cable at all. One issue I had was the sticky cable 4wd.com sent me which OX picked up to warranty it. I am not sure whose fault it really is, but the replacement cable OX sent me fixed the problem with the locker disengaging after locking. Another thing is, the Diff. cover is thick and heavy with not so flexible cable attached to one end of it, makes it quite a hassle maneuver the cover into place. But that will be a one time deal when you are installing. Just be careful routing the cable for the rear locker, as you can fry it with the exhaust. Here is my shifter mounting location. ![]() Michael K.

I'm also running an OX with my 35 although I did upgrade the axles to the 30spline setup. I've had zero issues. Absolutely love them

not it is not at all. the wj dana 35c is actually a dana 35c model 198, it is wider than a tj d35 and the axles have a different bolt pattern, 5x5". the castings are different too, with the wj having a flat top on the casting for the upper a-arm mount as it doesnt have 2 rear upper control arms like a tj does.

The Dana 35c in the WJ doesnt use c-clips, the one in the TJ does. Just like the D44 used under the WJ is different than the D44 used under the TJ. Just because they share the same axle designation doesnt make them the same.

The WJ D35 is also a D35c, and yes, it is different than the TJ D35. C stands for custom meaning it was assembled at the Jeep factory, not by Dana. I'm not sure how this is relevant to the thread, but hopefully this clears up the confusion.
