OverDrive Button

Hi all, I have searched with no available answer. I have a 04 Wrangler Sport that has 33" tires, that has not been regeard. I have an "Overdrive button" that I would use to get more power. When in use, the rpm is much higher, but it is also in the range where as if I were to regear it. My question is, could I damage anything driving with the "overdrive" all the time? Also, could I use the "overdrive" and eliminate the need to regear?

Thanks in advance
Charly

I think you're confusing the button's use. Pressing the button turns the overdrive off, not on. Turning it off doesn't give you more power.

As for using it instead of regearing: Overdrive doesn't change axle gear ratio. It's effectively just another gear. Turning it off will not give you a lower axle gear ratio to accomodate larger tires if that's what you're getting at.

I've read your post about three times now. I think you are under the impression that the Overdrive button is some kind of supercharger. Overdrive is another name for 4th gear. When you push that button, it just keeps your Jeep from shifting into 4th gear. Which help when pulling a trailer or going up hills.

I am looking to get a set of RE 5.5" front coils. I'll trade my 4.5" or pay (not too much though) for them. Send me a PM.
