Ordered It Today
2003 SE five speed with hardtop and, of course, the mystery 2.4L motor.
Got it for 300 USD over invoice plus 1000 rebate plus another 500 military rebate. Dealer was pretty cool about negotiating. Now is a good time to buy. They had a dark blue '03 Rubicon that was 28,000 USD. That's an awful lot for a Wrangler. So now we wait four to six weeks. And I don't need no stinkin' six cylinder Thanks.

Congratulations on the Jeep – they are great little machines. Don’t listen to what the other board members tell you, the 4cyl are not that bad. I’m probably the only board member that would say “I should have got the 4cyl instead of the 6cyl”
. Jeeps use a bit of gas though, so unless you’re already getting 13mpg in your current drive take what ever you were paying for gas and double it. I’m happy with my 02 though, even though I only go 50mph on the freeway now ![]() - Dustin

4 Cylinder
Thanks for the support Dustin.
4 cylinder engines and I go way back, including some VERY serious four wheeling in military M151s. BTW, an M151 will go through just about anything. Low gear, low range, in four-wheel, gas to the floor and DON'T STOP! This Jeep will do what I need it to do just fine. As for gas mileage, you just can't have low gears and high mileage, that's just policy. Thanks. |

4 cylinders are not that bad on the highway with a few mods. they don't necessarily accelerate that fast(unless you really get on it through all the gears) but will get you there without any problems. Just take care of it and perform a few of the common mods and you will be fine. This all applies to the old 2.5l so you may have even better results with the new 4 cyl. Currently i can run atleast 65 with a 2" spacer lift, 31" tires and a lot of junk in the back. So good luck and enjoy your new toy!
