OME 2.5" Vs. Rustys 3" standard lift

Hey guys,

For awhile now I thought I had my mind made up. I wanted the Old Man Emu 2.5" lift with a JKS 1.25" body lift. I just saw the Rustys 3" Coil lift.

http://rustysoffroad.com/Merchant2/m...ode=sus_tj_kit

Which would be a better choice? How much more harsh of a ride would the Rustys kit be? Would I really benefit from the OME and the body lift which would remove the transfer case drop, or would the 3" Rustys with a transfer case drop still be a better choice? I was even thinking about the 3.5" RE standard lift but dont want to go through the sye hassle or money involved. Opinions?

you asked for opinions . . . so here is mine . . . DO NOT EVER "DROP" YOUR TRANSFER CASE . . . the object of our "game" is to increase ground clearance . . . not to diminish it . . . save your pennies until you can do it "right" . . . unless you just want big tires --- and nothing more .

I just want to know what the better option is here. So are you saying since you dont want to drop the t-case the EMU with the MML and body lift is the better option? I won't be offroading like crazy, I am thinking 32"s at first then maybe 33's and nothing bigger.

of the two options you've described . . . yes . . . but this is MY opinion . . . which probably doesn't count for much.

All opinions matter, thats why I asked this question. I'll probably end up with the OME option like originally stated, just wondered which option may offer more ground clearance and fender clearance with the least chance of vibes.

you want lift, but no vibes? im confused if you want lift go big, and just go for 33's, and do it right and do the SYE, if not go with 2.5 OME and do a 1" BL, and see what you can fit, dont cut corners

Right now I want to be able to put 32's on it. I may go up to 33's once I get it regeared but not before as I have 3.07 gears. 32"s will be bad enough.

This is what I did which is similar to what you have asked. I went with OME springs, and shocks, 1.25 JKS b/l, JKS 1mml, 8 JKS control arms and JKS f/r adj. trac bars. With this I can run 33" w/out a problem, I should not need a SYE, I say should not b/c every TJ is different some may need a SYE with this lift, some may not need it with something taller.

Now with the proper bumpstops I can run up to 35" tires. Not sure what I mean check out www.DPGoffroad.com and you can see what I mean. There are pictures of TJ's running 33 and 35"s with this combo.

I cant say anything bad about Rustys b/c I dont know ....I have heard some say they are great some say they suck...you know how that goes. But I have been hard pressed to ever hear anyone say OME sucks period. Yes they do offer 4" coils now but thats a whole different ball of wax. Go with the OME.

And yes soon enough I will install a SYE...why????? Just b/c I want a shorter stronger rear output shaft and a way better driveshaft.

Im not sure of the rusty's lift, but i can tell you the ride of the OME is second to none,

Ive got the 2.5" springs and BB spacers on top of that, No T?C drop but i do have a currie MML and BL, and no vibes.. Still running stiock control arms and have a good ride and handling, very good manners on and off road, and im also running 33's

Another option is Rubicon Express with OME shocks. That's what I am going to go with. Scored a 3.5" superflex kit, am going to do a bunch to my transfercase, (4:1, 2low, sye) along with CV shaft, adj trackbars, hd tierod, detroit in the rear, arb upfront, 4.56 gears, etc... I feel like doing it right this time, wish I would have the first time thru, it would have been ALOT cheaper.
