OME 2.5 Kit Arrived

Thanks for all the input and suggestions on a lift.

I have an 05 Rubicon Unlimited with a MM SE8000 winch that appears to be causing the front springs to sag. Consequently I ordered and OME 2.5 kit from Northridge that arrived last night. I just now spoke to a mechanic in town that will install the kit and align the front end for $300.00 - seems like a very fair price to me. I'm dropping my Jeep off in a little while and he promised to get the work done tomorrow. Also, I took a couple of before pcitures which I will post with the after pictures when the job is done. For comparison purposes I measured the before height to the bottom of the fender flares: Rear - 33.5" Front 32.5".

Hopefully this lift with give me the clearance I need and the ride improvement that my wife will be pleased with. More information and pictures to follow.

Okay, the mechanic installed the kit for $339 including tax. The rear went from 33.5" to 36" (+2.5) and the front went from 32.5" to 34.5" (+2.0). I'm a little disappointed that the front is still lower than the rear, maybe I need a spacer after all. Also, although the Jeep looks okay with the stock 31s, I'll be getting a set of 33s in the near future. Here's the pictures.....

I will say that the ride with the OME kit (HD springs front and rear) has improved greatly, to a point where my wife may even be satisfied. The handling and braking also work well.

That's a good price. Where are you located?

Did you do a BL/MML? Any vibes? Was the TC dropped? Having an UL helps in that respect.

Your Jeep looks really good. 33s will look great. What are you going to do for tires and wheels?

Sorry for the questions but I'm planning to do the same lift kit soon so I'm curious.

I didn't do the a BL or MML lift yet, nor did I touch the TC; I'll probably make those modifications when I go to larger tires. I haven't decided what tires to use, but I would like to reuse the stock wheels if possible. I think that will limit the width of whatever 33s I go with. I'd appreciate any suggestions you may have.

I haven't noticed any vibrations, but so far I don't think I've gone over 40 MPH since picking the Jeep up yesterday. I'll be doing some highway driving today and if I have any problems I'll post them here.

The mechanic is located in Chatham, NJ; Glenn's Automtive and Towing.

If you use a high quality spacer like Spidertrax you should be ok with your stock wheels. Supposedly you need the BL/MML for 33s with the OME kit. Most 33s are 12.50" wide although some brands come in 10.50". MTRs don't have a 33x10.5"-15 but with the 16" size you have more options. It's good that you haven't noticed any vibes yet.

I'll be talking to my shop on Tuesday about my options. I want to run 32x11.50-15 MTRs so I'm going to have the BL/MML installed with the lift. If I had a Rubicon with the nice 31" Moabs/MTRs I'd probably do as you did and wait a bit (and save some money initially) but I want to get some decent tires on my Jeep pretty much right away so it's going to be a bigger hit on the wallet.

I measured more carefully last evening and discovered that the right rear end of my Jeep is 3/4" higher than the left. Is that normal? Could the mechanic have reversed the rear springs resulting in that much of a difference?

It's addressed in this post here:

Ignore this, install both tall springs on the passenger side or you will have a rather noticable rake to the passenger side (1"+). I switched mine out yesterday as I had it up on the lift and was doing other maintance. I still have a rake but it isn't as severe as before.
The thread itself is here: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f15/ome-lift-question-214957/

I plan to ask about this when purchasing the kit. 3/4" is quite noticeable IMO.
