Leave this decision as is.

The rules can be defined a bit clearer next month.

Spyder, I think you made a good decision. You can't let it get to you so much every time someone has an issue with your judgment calls. I do agree with Gecko that it's not clearly stated in the rules for anyone who hasn't been following the contest. I honestly think that for next month you should rewrite the rules. I am not saying to change them, but they need to be reworded.

"Posting additional pictures to public forums will not be tolerated. you are allotted 3 pictures for the contest - keep it that way."

I think that's the rule intended to inform people that posting on OTHER forums about the contest is prohibited. It doesn't specifically say that though and could very easily be taken the wrong way. Anyway, I think that you should rewrite the rules into an easier to understand format. What's done is done this month. You could always put his rig into the contest next month if he is up for it. Good luck, spyder!

Gecko, I disagree with:

"I knew that my TJ was in a different class as compared to the very well built up TJ's in this group with their upgraded axles, and LA setups..."

I personally think your TJ is pretty well built. I was very, very impressed by the build thread you have here on JF. That being said, my vote was going to go to you because of the uniqueness of your Jeep. I was having a very rough time trying to figure out if I wanted to vote for you or Fourby. When it came down to it, I chose you because your Jeep is unique and you did everything yourself. I obviously didn't get the chance to vote for you because of what has happened. All of the Jeeps this month were pretty similar including yours - long arms and axles or not. Don't let this incident discourage you from entering the contest again (if it's allowed). You were doing really well with the votes and a lot of people liked your rig. I don't know that your reputation has been tarnished as spyder said. If people took the time read what happened (as spyder was nice enough to post up about it) and gain a good understanding of it, I think they'd vote for you if they had to do it all over again.

IMHO, the rule about advertising on other sites is just dumb. Advertising on other forums brings people to Jeepforum. That is good for Jeepforum and Jeepforum's advertisers. We want to do things that are good for Jeepforum.

Isnt the board setup so new members can't [img] tag until so many posts? Why not make a poll rule that says members must have 20 posts before they can participate in a poll. That is, if it's such a big deal.

I like TJOTM. Let's try to keep it going.

I think the rule about advertising your rig on other forums is in place to keep it a fair contest. It's not fair for people to outsource votes while other people aren't. Spyder is just trying to keep the contest as fair as he can. I think advertising your Jeep being in the contest on another forum isn't advertising JF, it's advertising yourself and the contest.

Gecko5 will be allowed to resubmit, he is still a member of the forum and I ecourage him to do so.

Like I said before, advertising the contest is perfectly fine. Advertising yourself and asking for votes is outsourcing that aspect and is unfair to the other partisipants. The contest is about who thinks who's rig is best, not a popularity contest on how many people that you know

Spyder,

You did what you felt you had to do... not what you wanted to do. I have no problem with your decision.

Everyone,
I think I understood the rule to mean advertising the contest and asking for votes would not be allowed. Had Gecko5 just said "check out the contest and vote for your favorite" I doubt he would have been DQed. In any event, I think Spyder only has the best intentions in managing this contest and I will support his decisions. I appreciate the fact that this rule exists or as stated above it would just be a contest to see who could access the most votes and not who has the best or favorite TJ for that month. Thanks for maintaining the integrity of the contest Will!

Gecko5,
I voted for your jeep to be in the top 10 and would again... it is a nice rig. I hope you put this behind you and submit again.

Rules are rules. If one was omitted in the writing of the rules, it does not apply.

You did what you felt you had to do and you told him he could re-enter next month, it's all good!

Be very careful with the wife mod. Uninstallation can be extremely expensive. Wife mods have been known to take the Jeep and all other mods during the uninstall process. Also, make sure you service your wife mod properly as often as humanly possible. Wife mods not properly serviced may malfuction or uninstall themselves at any time.

A decision has been made. Whether it was vetted "Properly" or not prior to actioning is debatable but such is life. There is no right or wrong here. Just miscommunication. As such, i do not want to see anything overturned.

My line of work constantly puts me in a position whereby I have to make decisions that not all will agree with. I guess in this particular case though, it is myself who staunchly disagrees .

What i DO HOPE comes from this though is a review of your rules. The specific rule you keep quoting Spyder is not clear. Period. No matter how you want to reference it and that is evidenced by the replies here as well as some of the PM's i received. In my defense, i did not break the rules based on my point of view. If it was clear to NOT post on other forums, then.... I would not have done so. The specific rule you have in place references pictures. Nothing more. It's just a game. Believe me... I have more pressing issues that keep me up at night!!!

Good Luck all. BDDISI, ironically enough, when i went to vote, it was yours i was going to vote for!!! But at that point, i was so concerned that i'd get little votes, that i voted for my own. But then i actually started getting votes!!! Your analness/cleanliness is remarkable. We should exhange notes

Cheers,

Ok, as a valid forum member, I voted for Gecko5's rig. My vote no longer counts but I can not revote for another rig?

If Gecko5 is disqualified all of us that voted for him should be allowed to revote for a different rig.

There are absolutely no hard feelings here Spyder. You guys are doing a bang up job. Circumstances sometimes arise that you are not prepared for and you have to make decisions. I respect that. Keep up the great work!

For all others, just let this pass. Enough headaches have been introduced to deal with as a result of this situation. They do not need more. Let your votes go. Too bad so sad. There's always next month!
