October TJoTM!... THE CONTEST HAS STARTED VOTE NOW!!!
![]() Welcome to the October TJ of The Month Contest! All, This month we modified the rules slightly to try to give those with less "ballsy" Jeeps a chance to enter and survive the Judges ruling. I think it turned out well! I eliminated 2 Judges off my list for reasons private to the integrity of their reputation. This has helped me tremendously as I have also stepped down as a Judge. from hereon out I am just the administrator of the project, i will control the top 10 and compile the judges decisions while influencing an unbiased, respectable and correct top 10. this month has been especially difficult for myself, there were many close calls in the final top 10 list when I compiled it. on a slightly different note, as still we are experiencing our growing pains - for those who made an accident on their first TJoTM submission and want to re-submit. Our account is set up to file multiple emails from the same email with the same subject line as the previous email under a catagory for easy viewing. those who resubmit while the submission process is underway, PLEASE resubmit with exactly the same subject line as your original email. do not add "correct links" or "fixed" otherwise, we had a fantastic turn out of 34 entries this month, up from last months too! i hope this continues to grow and everyone enjoys it. we have 2 more months left before the final TJ of The Year vote and then a whole new year of great Jeeps. Let the Games begin! -Will (spyder6)

All the mods have been done myself with help from my brother (mg2000xj) and our friend Brian; on a 17 year old, high schooler's budget. Not even a year old and with less than 7500 miles, it was time for the upgrades to begin starting with a Rubicon Express 3.5” SF lift and 33” tires. A few trips to Moab later it was time for lockers and gears. Each year we tried to make modifications to the jeep as my driving and comfort level increased. Even though it doesn’t see a lot of highway miles anymore (24,000 miles on it today) the miles that it does see are seldom easy ones. While we were unsure as to what type of wheeling we really enjoyed, we wanted to make sure we could do “whatever” we encountered. Living near Ouray, CO and close to Moab, UT and having lived in Colorado for over 20 years, we knew that rocks were going to play a large role in where we wheeled. A trip over the Rubicon in 2007 proved what we really enjoyed doing. In the 10 years we have been going to Moab, we have been over most all of the trails that are out there, experiencing our first flop in Pritchett Canyon 2 years ago. After returning home from that trip, the 2nd evolution began, being completed just a few weeks ago. Stretching it out and changing the suspension completely has taken many many hours of planning and head scratching, but the final product was worth the effort. Using mostly aftermarket readily available brackets from Poly Performance and Gen-Right, and accumulating parts over time, the “new” jeep works simply amazing. With it’s first trip to Moab 2 weeks ago running Moab Rim to work out the bugs (probably not the best trail to do so on!) it performed outstanding with only a couple of tweaks to adjust in time for next year. Story : First bought the Jeep right after high scholl when it was on 27 inch tires with a 2.5 5 speed with power steering and ac. Drove it for a long time like that and even had two buddies take a trip in it to moab with me. It went all over out there being stock. If we got it stick we would stick it in first gear four wheel low and all three of us rock it and it would get unstuck. When we were out there they were shooting commercials for the hummer h2 so we tried to ruin one by driving my little stock jeep through the back ground but they cut us off. Then a year later i married my wife and she really wanted a grand cherokee and i thought it was still a jeep so i would be fine. Well i wasn't so after stalking the new owner for 2 years and my wife hearing about everything he had done to it and driving by his house and pointing it out she was ready for me to have another wrangler. Well i started saving up and was driving thru town one day and it was sitting out for sale so i called and made an offer and then called the wife to tell her it was for sale after i made an offer. Well he didn't want to meet my offer so i waited it out and he finaaly took my offer so now i have my jeep back with a spacer lift and 31's with a new soft top with tinted windows and glass slider upper doors. I finally had enough of the 4 cylinder and was going to put in a 4.0. Well i started checking price and for a decent 4.0* harness and computer i would have a small fortune in the swap so i looked at ford 5.0 since i already knew how to wire them up and had a harness. Well then i picked up a 5.0 an ax15 an adapter plate, a 23 spline 231 with a.a. sye. A week and a half after deciding i wanted a 5.0 i had a running driving wrangler. i kept all factory gauges and all work bet the tach but that is in the works. The jeep is now a blast to drive and the power is awesome off road. I now worried about the dana 35 exploding so i started looking at axles and found a set of rubicon 44's and picked them up. I have always drooled over the rubicon and wanted to buy or turn mine into one. Next i picked up rubicon moab wheels from an 05 also then a set of rubicon rocker guards from an 04 rubicon. all i need now is the t case and stickers and i will be in a 97 5.0 rubicon. Pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() Kenbo-slice Ken Deichler Kenbo-Slice * **** Right now my Jeep sits on 4" of lift. The stock skid plate is where it should be thanks to adjustable control arms in the rear, a Currie SYE and a Currie*CV driveshaft. The stock I6 supplies the power along with an Edge throttle body and power programmer. A Superior S35 stuffed with a Detroit Locker and Yukon 4.56 gears*sits out back, and a D30 with a Trutrac and Yukons*is up front to turn the 35" BFG KM2's. JKS quicker disconnects help stuff the tires into the chopped stock front fenders. To stay "legal" I got rid of the*dim*factory headlights, and swapped in 7" housings with amber LED's to cover my running lights, and blinkers. I got rid of my stock tail lights as well, and replaced them with ORO Lite Dots. Then I welded up a 3rd brake light/license plate light to sit inside of my spare tire. The spare tire sits on a home made rear bumper/tire carrier that I*fabricated*during my lunch breaks at work. The front bumper is from JCR offroad and has a 9000lb. Mile Marker winch as well as two KC rally 800 lights. A soft top is at home on the Jeep in the warmer months, and a hard top keeps the heat in during the colder months. Inside, the tub is Herculined so there is no carpet to get wet and nasty. In back is my "OBA". I used a bottle from the firehouse that holds 4500psi, with a welding regulator to gate down the pressure. I can air up my 35's from 10 psi to 30 psi in about 5 minutes.*The dash lights were switched to*ultraviolet LED bulbs to match the rare deep ameherst pearl paint. The stock shifter was chopped about 8" for quicker shifts and a home made throttle lever was put on the shortened shaft to keep the bouncing at bay on the rocks. A rock knob (a gift for my Jeep from the lady) finishes off the shifter. Thats about all that is done to interior, other than the stereo ( but with the doors off and the top down, who needs to worry about that?) * * * **** My first vehicle was a 1994 XJ. I always looked at Wranglers and told myself I would have one.*I purchased this 1998 Jeep TJ*in December 2007. I got a good deal on it, and the fact that it only had 49,000 miles when I got it was just the icing on the cake. I drove it for a few months the way it was, (but that didn't last long). The Jeep*had a 4" lift, 33" off brand*tires and stock everything. I started building it up as time and money permitted, and making whatever I could for it. It currently has*just under*70,000 miles on the ticker,*so it has plenty of life left. I have big plans for my humble Jeep, but being that I am 20 years old, and I'm not loaded it is going to take some time. I am trying to build it in a way that anyone else could, especially being that times are tough for many, I like to do whatever I can with stock components (i.e. chopping stock fenders) to keep costs down. I drive it every day, and have put about 20,000 miles on the clock*so far. I wheel it every chance I get and drive it to work all week long. My favorite thing about the Jeep is the looks that it gets sitting at stoplights, and the compliments I get driving it around. I beat the heck out of it whenever I can, but then I go home to*throw a coat of wax on it and cruise at 75 mph down the highway. At some point It will probably be built a little too much to drive every day, but thats okay.... I plan on keeping*my Jeep around for years to come. If you got through reading all of this, well thank you! Hopefully my Jeep will be hanging on your wall soon!***** *- Ken D. * ![]() ![]() ![]() |
