Thanks for all this info...........I'll be doing the same.
Just to be sure I understand, the existing switch in my NP231 (98 TJ) is normally open (or closed) and the switch on the NP241 I have from a 04' wrangler is the opposite??? That is why the switch needs changed, not just the plug???

Thanks again for all the work.........

That is a great writeup. If I were swapping cases, I would want the 4wd light to work. Too bad there aren't the lights for the lockers. If there were, you could get those to work for the ARBs.

I do have a question though, why is it the 241J? If you search that, there is like no info (although that is what I originally thought it was). If you go to Gear Ratio Calculator and go to select a t-case, you have the NP/NV/NVG241 or the NP241OR. There is no mention of the 241J, and the 241or is the one with 4:1 low.

X2. Please explain how how the 241OR does not actually exist?

RogueSpear2023 05-20-2010 12:53 AM

To my understanding the NV241OR is what Chrysler calls the T-case from a Rubicon but when it comes to actually buying one online I believe they are only NV241J like what comes in all the JKs, the "OR" part stands for Off Road, and Chrysler added this terminology to explain he difference between the NV241J that comes in standard JKs, and the NV241 out of a Rubicon, so yes when it comes to parts online, and from new venture I don't think it really exists, but in Chrysler's world it does. So the only way to buy a NV241OR is to get one from a Rubicon, and if you get it, it will come with 4:1 low gears.

That makes sense. If you read the FSM for a Rubi, the lockers and t-case are referred to as the Off-Road package.

Now that I think it through...........the existing switch on my NP231 must be normally open or the light would be on with it un-plugged.........

Deacon, you are planning on swapping in a 241?

Deacon 05-21-2010 04:02 PM

Yes...

rieveskp 01-24-2011 01:15 PM

no idicator lights no lockers

i have an 04 rubi and my 4wd indicator lights and my lockers are not working is this what i need to do

Deacon 01-24-2011 02:16 PM

No, it's not. Replacing the switch may help if the switch is bad, but that's it.

MattGATRTJ 03-14-2011 09:52 AM

Does anyone have any experience with the opposite of this situation. Say I removed the 241 from my Rubicon and installed a 231, now I cannot get the 4wd light to work properly. Using an older switch from a 231 does not work at all on the 06 rubicon. If I put the 241 switch in the 231, then I can get the 4wd switch on in 2wd along with the CEL. The switch button is too long and will not let you shift the t-case. I can fix the shifting problem, but the CEL and getting the switch to function in the opposite position is not possible.

I have not found any info on this.

I know "why would you get rid of a 241?" Cause it goes great with a D30 & D35.;)
