I went up to N and the 4wd light still on, and also was on in 4L...
So its obvious I am in a 4wd mode, I cant seem to figure out what size those big bolts are...

For the 231, the most forward position of the shift lever is 2H. As you move it towards the rear of the vehicle you get 4H, N, 4L

Getting a loud clunk when the jeep is running, trying to go from N to 4L. The lever is in the 2H position but the TC is in neutral
Edit: Got it in 2H, and the shift lever is in 2H, so its all lined up. Now I need to adjust the cable, as I cant shift up into 4H, N, or 4L still.

i read through this post before installing mine and another member had some really good tips on his install. adjust to make sure that 2h is good, then adjust to make sure 4l is good. you should then be good with some final adjustments. i did that and its spot on.

Well I think I figured out the issue, i got the TC in 2H, and the shift lever is in 2H as well, but the rotor plate is on wrong so I cant shift the TC at all. My rotor plate is pointing straight out or in other words completely horizontal with the ground...... can anyone post up a pic of the rotor plate in 2H for me so I can align it correctly... and does anyone know what size those larger adjusting bolts are on the actual cable? It figures one of the easiest installs is taking me forever haha

This is the best way as far as i know. Mine was installed this way and I never had to do any adjusting. Shifts super smooth all the way thru.

I think this is what you are asking for, these are the best pics I have. I believe the wrench I used was 1".

2003, is that your lo pro mount sticking out on the driver side? i tried installing mine that way first and i could not shift the tcase; it hit the bottom portion of the case as well. im guessing yours works this way either due to the fact you have the 3350 and the newer style tranny mount?
sorry to highjack

Yes that is the lo pro mount and I have the manual trans. I did read that if you have an auto it has to be modified some. I did have to grind down the lip (edge) on the stock mount it bolts to, did you do that? I have pics I can upload in a bit if you need to see it. Grinding the lip down allowed the lo pro mount to sit flush on the stock mount.

oh yeah i did that, ha. The lip on the 97 is much more pronounced on the bottom portion where the lo pro sits. i cut off both portions to test fit each side and i will weld back the remaining peice on the side that the lo pro is not protruding. for me mounting the lo pro on the driver side was a no go. it was hitting the bottom of the tcase, and by the time i got done adjusting it, i could not shift the tcase. so its going on the other side. i was actually quite a chore to get the lo pro and the UCF high clearance skid to work right. im still making adjustments.

I run the original extra clearance skid, i wonder if the deeper skids require more adjustment. I do agree installing the lo pro mount is not as easy and the directions were somewhat confusing. Drilling the hole threw the skid for the bolt was a challenger getting it to line up.

im putting a bet on that makes all of the difference right there. im running the UHC skid. everything fit but was very tight. i ended up installing a BL to make some extra room for exhaust and allowing me to install the MML to help with driveline angles. It also helped bring the exhaust up off of the lo pro mount. having the novak shifter helped in doing all of that as i didnt really have to adjust anything further with it.

a quick question does the skid plate have to be uninstalled for this mod to be done? or is it just easier to lower it to get this installed....i have never removed my skid plate and was just wondering if the transfer case is actually mounted to it or just the tub?

It would probably be easier but not necessary.
