never monday has strong feelings about the D35 because he has sucessfully wheeled and beaten on TJs with that axle.

Do not take his comments as a personal attack against you.

Exactly... though to be clear so some newer members won't misundertand, never monday's D35 has been beefed up via a kit from Superior Axle... it is not a stock D35.

My aggrivation come from the reaction to a fear.
Yeah stock 35's can break on 31's. But more don't than do. So because of internet hysteria everyone run's out and spends $1000+ to fix a problem that hasn't happened.

Jerry,
I have both a 35c and a S35.

I got you... and I understand completely. I kind of felt the same way when I was reading about the D35, until I read a post on how they weren't all that bad. It even said something like, "this forum is going to make every noob think their D35 is crap and about to explode." Or something to that extent. And I think that is kinda what's happened to me. However, we are all in agreement I should lock up the front?

EDIT: I mean, it says "trail rated" for a reason, right? LOL

I think the best path for upgrading is to allow your wheeling to guide you. If you get to the point where you think you may be in danger of breaking a shaft, or the rear open diff is limiting you, then you upgrade.

Personally, it keeps me grounded and sane

So long as your rear axle is a stock Dana 35c, then yes by all means lock only the front axle. Realize too that you won't want to use 4x4 on icy roads if you install a front automatic locker like an Aussie. A front automatic locker can make steering dicey on an icy road when you shift into 4x4. It'd be fine so long as you remained in 2wd though.

By the way, I noticed your Profile is still mostly empty. Please update it and fill in the missing information so we don't have to figure out your Jeep's configuration by looking around for it in some thread.

Thanks again Jerry. So I will actually be driving up to Big Bear alot because that's where my Dad lives. I should maybe think about an ARB up front then? Or just wait for the super 35 and lock up the back?

Side Note: I thought I updated my profile. :-( I am at work all day but I will fill it in tonight. For some reason I am allowed on this site but it blocks me from being able to go into my profile. Bummer.
