not the average performance question, i think

i know intakes/TBS and exhaust dont do much, and was wondering what kind of gain would i get with the following upgrades...

a new cam gear (if i can find it again)
new ignition kit (coil,wires,plugs,)
roller rockers
lifters (if they make upgraded ones)
jet chip
drop in filter
new exhaust from headers back

would all this give me enough power to be worth it? i know most of it alone wont help much but what piece would help the most?

based on my experience...

you'll get zero from the JET Chip...

and nothing from the drop-in filter...

if "from the headers back" includes a new header, that might make a difference...

I'd be interested to see (if it was even possible) what you got out of a new cam and some roller rockers...

you ought to just bite the bullet and put a stoker kit in...

I have heard just about everything with regards to the 4.0... short of stroking it, there's not much that you can do to squeek much extra out of it. It's a pretty darned good engine.

Think about this - most exhaust and intake mods are to get more airflow through the engine at high RPMs. The 4.0 produces 90% of it's torque at idle. It's not going to rev high enough to make a difference.

The jet chip is a joke.

If you want more power, re-gear. It's a Jeep, you could put a jet engine in the thing and it's still going to be slow.

Nope, I sure didn't.

I know very little of the 4 banger, and have proven to be completely useless in your quest for more information.

But WTF, nice talking with you.

I don't know much about the 4 cyl or Jet chips, but I had a 97 with a 4.0L and 3:07's and put an exhaust on it. The manifold was cracked and I got a Hypertech Programmer, (a lot of people will say it's snake oil) but my own experience seemed that hills I used to have to downshift to 4th on (on the highway) I could go up in 5th. Plus they can also read and clear codes. Just my $.02

I actually had good results from a Hypertech on a different vehicle (dyno tested for results)...

but, to get the best gains, you'll have to run premium...

stroke or bore it. With the amount of money you'd spend on all the items listed, you should be able to a get it bored 30 over and have the engine rebuilt. From results I've heard of it works great.

ive heard boring it helped quite a bit. Matched with headers back syatem, and possible rockers and a cam, you might have something going. But by the time you get all that, you might as well just (x3) stroke it. Or better yet, stick a supercharger on it...

Quit exaggerating. It's only like 86%.
