No shims installed with stock D30 pinion setup?

In the process of re-gearing a D30. Removed the setup from my stock LP D30, removed the inner bearing race for the pinion. To my surprise, there were zero shims in the setup!! Anyone else heard of this?

The shim(s) will be under the pinion bearing on a dana 30, and occasionally the oil slinger will be the only shim.

so you pressed the bearing off the pinion and there was no shims or slinger there?

There was only an oil slinger

So it was the pinion / oil slinger / bearing

that oil slinger is your shim, that's all mine had too, sometime you can get the right setup reusing it, sometimes you'll have to add shims, sometimes you'll have to get rid of the slinger all together if it's thicker than the shim depth you need
