Newer TJ leather shift boot work on 2000 TJ?

I broke the bracket that holds my rubber shifter boot into the console of my 2000 TJ. I was going to order another factory one but wanted to know if the factory leather boots for the newer TJ's and Rubicons would work in my center console. If not is there any better after market boot I can use. The rubber one really bugs me

Thanks

All you have to do is buy a leather shift boot from the dealer that goes on 2005+ Wranglers. Cut off the metal ring around the boot, and then glue it on to your existing plastic bezel...then pop it back into your console. Takes some time and patience with all the trimming and glueing, but looks great when it is complete.

Just as Rocky529 said it's an easy job and is much better than the rubber boot.

I asked my mother to make me one. Looks nice, cost free. Took her like 15 minutes. And I got a free lunch!

You're going to be glueing the boot to the bezel anyway, so forgoe the tape and use glue. It might actually last.

i just tried that over the weekend.... before ******* over the 50 bucks to the stealership... picked one up at canadian tire, was real leather as oposed to the pleather OEM one.... but no luck ...was too small. couldn't stretch it out around the plastic. the generic one's tend to be round... and are meant more for cars.. that was my take on it anyways, wound up wasting time returning it, in my attempt to save some cash. save yourself and just go with the oem.

I got the round one to fit on my G/F jeep it was tight but we stretched it out and it looks great! It was the black one with red stitching; I don't remember the brand name though.
