I just got my 06 Rubi Unlimited a couple of days ago and I have noticed a shifting issue as well.

When I shift from 2 to 3rd the synchros grind a little. It engages but I can feel them have to catch up and mesh. No other gear change does this noticibly. The rest synch without me feeling it in the shift. I only have 250 miles so far so i am seriously thinking about going back to the dealer and saying something.

For mileage, I got 15 MPG on my first partial fill up, and about 14 on my second half tank. Have not run it down to a fully empty tank to measure yet. If I can hit around 15 I will be more than happy.

I'm getting that problem with the synching from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd. Please let me know if they do anything about your issue.

OK. That piques my interest. I will start another thread about the Synchro and see if we get any others with this issue...

There is another thread that exists that discusses this issue. The conclusion of the thread was that the 05-06 6 speeds all do this when cold. If you want to reduce it a synthetic gear lube will pretty much make it go away.

I just shift a bit slower and I don't have the crunching feeling.

Hope this helps,

When I was looking to by a Wrangler I first looked at an 05 6spd Rubicon, I noticed the shifting problems. I really was disappointed, so I found an 04 Rubicon 5spd and it shifted smoothly thru all gears. I bought the 04 and it already had a 2" lift installed. Through 5 tanks of gas I'm averaging 16.8 mpg daily driving. I can live with that.

IT does. I will definitely be looking into a fluid change to the synthetic...

Thanks!

After your break-in, take it back to the dealer and they can run a diagnostic that will show if everything in the Fuel delivery/burn chain is functioning w/i spec.
11 is unacceptable and likely will solve with either the break-in or fixing something out of spec.
Expect 15-17 depending on variables
