what's different about the 00-04 sensor, that you can't make it work in an 05-06?

Nearly everything. Different tone wheel and sensor feeding different engine management.

Granted, you could make it work... just depends how complicated you want to be.

Both sensors should output a 5v square wave.

Does anyone have an 05-06 sensor laying around?

Having done the fogmod1.0 and as a result feeling better about my OPDA (much thanks to Fog and Willydigger), nonetheless, I'd buy a superior designed replacement OPDA in a heartbeat. Thank you for your efforts liljpy, and Crown.

Did you fogmod your existing ODPA or a new one ?

Mine is starting to "chirp" when really cold but I can't complain too much as I've put 177k miles on my 05.

So I decided to email Jeep also

I used part of Joe's letter and added a bit more to personalize my message to the Jeep people. Mine went like this:

"Dear Jeep,

EVERY 2005 and 2006 Jeep Wrangler suffers from a HORRIBLY designed Oil Pump Drive Assembly which has a bearing located ABOVE an oil seal, thus allowing the unlubricated bearing to overheat and FAIL. WE cannot buy them at ANY dealer because the manufacturer is out of business. I have the LDI, Inc. #53010624 AC / 105103-REV-B OPDA installed in the 2005 Jeep (build: 05/05). At this point I am not experiencing failure but through a Jeep Forum have decided that I would rather replace the poorly designed unit with a new (as yet not produced?) unit so that our trips to the desert and other places down the road are NOT halted because of major mechanical failure, especially when far out in the desert!!!
So the question is what is Jeeps' plan for all Jeep owners who have bought one because of its supposed reliability? We all need a quality replacement part. Can you deliver or suggest one that is available now?
Thanks for your help in this matter. I will be waiting for a reply as will many others (there are 5 Jeeps already in my family).
GN"

I believe that if they actually read stuff like this that they should be made to read lots and lots of words...more time reading maybe means they might actually begin to think clearly about what they are reading.

I very much agree with you on this. I just wanted forum members to be aware of potential problems that could arise from production of a new part.
My OPDA is showing signs of wear, and when the weather breaks, I'll take preventive action. Until then I wish Crown products the best of luck in their endevors!

FogMod'ed a new one...kept the old as a spare and will FogMod it as well. I checked the old OPDA and it was fine although very low miles (11,750 mi). FogMod was done as insurance.

Yep, might be. Easy check and reasonably easy fix w/ FogMod.

I was lucky and dealer had a new OPDA in stock (several months ago) and I purchased one. My fear was if the FogMod failed because of an error during the modification, I'd have a spare. Even having completed the FogMod and having faith in the modification, I'm a little more comfortable having a spare OPDA around especially with the horrible Chrysler back-order problem.

Maybe we'll get lucky with a Crown fix...I hope so.

Or you could possibly make a killing off some poor sap who's OPDA failed and is having a bad summer of 60K trailed queen.

J/K... I know that we're all in this mess together and wouldn't take advantage of each other.

My LJ isn't making any noises at 24k miles. I need to check the OPDA and modify it...but it's still Feb. and I've got plenty of time (months) to see what happens with Crown, Chrysler, or LSI.

Hoping for the best, for all of us!
