new locker, axles, gears. wow what a diff.

Ok, no more whining from me about waiting for my rear end!!

Its been cold and I dont have a shop or garage so when my gears and axle showed up I just had 4 wheel parts put them on rather than crawl around on the cold ground.

FWIW, I had some concerns about fitting the 44 in without a shorter shaft but as has been said on here before, even a small suspension (mine is 2") lift the stock axle works fine.

I had 4.11 gears and went to 4.56 which basicly moves my shifts up a gear so my 4th became 5th etc... it makes hwy driving MUCH nicer. I couldnt use 5th around here with any hills and last night I had an empty trailer and never had to shift out of 5th. If you are considering this change I would recommend going to 4.88. I was conservative and went with 4.56 and am happy but I would go 4.88 knowing what I know now. It will allow me to go to 37's if nothing else.

The Detroit locker. Wow, I asked how it might affect my driving but I didnt need to. The first U-turn I made freaked me out a bit but it's nothing I cant get used to and shift my driving habits. You WILL notice it back there after having never had a locker before! No more icey driving for me, at least until I get used to it!

I upgraded to the 33 spline superior shafts and the only thing I can say is, well they havent broken in the first 24 hours.
I guess I wont really know how well they work I guess unless I break them.

I now have what I would consider a minimum rig for some real fun atTellico and will see some of you there this year I hope.
