If you have wheelwell-to-wheelwell rocker guards, at least the front of them is going to have to be loosened to slip the side piece underneath. I just pulled the Savvy rockers up tight over the top of the side trim piece. The alternative would be to trim the bottom of the side trim piece to butt against the top of the rocker guard so you don't need to lift the rocker guard any to slip the side trim piece underneath it.

They're made from ABS, the same stuff football helmets are made out of, not butter.

Nice! I like those better than any tube fender I've seen. I'm diggin' old CJ look of it.

I'd really like to get a set, but the wife says I can't buy anything else unless I break something and it needs to be replaced. So we all know what that means...

Thanks Jerry. As tight as the Savvy rockers go on I would imagine a lot of loosening to get anything to slide in there. I imagine blaine figured his design would allow for easy on and off but for someone of my limited abilities getting them mounted was a big enough chore I'd rather not remove them unless I have to. Trimming to fight around the rocker seems like a reasonable idea and then I could drill out the little nutsert that would show up in the hole on the rockers. My jeep is black and I painted the rockers black so would probably end up looking fine.

JK housing is great solution for the front markers . . . but, I guess those of us who didn't have the same flares as you (where they the Bushwacker flat flares?) are going to have to be creative on side markers if we want to consider these.

but you dont necessarily need a side marker as the jk signal dont sit flush, this would allow them to be considered a side marker as you can see them from the side

They look great! Jerry, a suggestion on mounting the side markers; since the fenders are made of ABS I'd bond a piece (or pieces) of ABS to the inside of the fender lip and screw the lights in from the rear. This way you'd only see the lens and no fasteners. A quick run to the hardware store and you'll find all the ABS and ABS cement you'll need.

Just a thought...

I wasn't even considering any fender upgrade, But for the price, function and look I can't not do this mod. Damit, This Jeep is a petchulant child. It never has enough

In NY the requirements call for a separate light on the side. Don't see anything though about tire coverage which I know is big in some states. Example of how the vehicle laws vary state to state.

Seems like a really innovative/different idea. My only concern would be brittleness in the Maine winters. I'm pretty glad I saved my old fenders that rusted on the spot you have to cut for these, I might give these a whirl.

Considering their dimensions & my desire to have them fit flush, I don't know that I could have secured the side LED markers well enough to ABS bonded to the interior. Thanks for that suggestion though, maybe someone smarter than I can come up with a good way to do that without the need for exterior screws.

I dunno how you found them but that's exactly the side LED markers that came in my old Bushwhacker flares that I reused in the new MCE fenders. Thanks, the guys at MCE were wondering where they could be obtained from.

I used a Dremel to cut the curved part from the two ends off so they would fit into the new MCE fenders from the rear.

Hey, where in Westchester are you?

And NY has no tire coverage laws which is pretty awesome and I've heard that the side marker light is not really an issue so I'm only going to tackle that only when I need to.

Thanks for the replies and kind words.

To answer a couple of the questions:

We do have a lighting kit in the works, we are working with a few different lights to see which works the best. We are also looking for them to be as "plug and play" as possible.

As far as temperature extremes, this was one of our concerns at first as well. While we do not have 120 degree days here in the PNW, it did reach triple digets for a few days this past summer. With the Jeeps parked outside, we did not experience any deformation. This is partly why we also use plastic fasteners along the inside edge of the fenders: they allow slight movement as the material expands and contracts with temperature. And to add to Jerry's very good observation about helmets, many vehicles on the road today use ABS plastic for trim and bumper covers, etc.

Lower temperatures have not seem to be a problem either. The living room picture that Jerry put in the original post is of a top piece that I had just grabbed from the garage. That was during a cold snap where the temperature was in the low 'teens. It had been cold like that for a few days and the garage is un-heated. The fender did pop back to its original form. Here is the picture:

Thanks,

Mike and Jason
