Ah, thanks, I think I get it now. So they're not really...locked in there, right? Just kept in that orientation by friction, and the sheet metal keeps them from moving in or out?

If you cut the notches in the grill so the JK enclosure is something like 30 degrees off from vertical when first inserted, then rotating the lights 30 degrees back after insertion so they are positioned vertically truly does lock the lights into place. I cannot remove my JK light enclosures unless I rotate them 30 degrees CCW first. The exact number of degrees doesn't matter. 10 degrees is as good as 30 degrees.

fender look great, awsome alternative to expensive tube fenders. One questions though, how did you did you do such a great job on dilling out the girll for the jk lights, mine looked bad when I did mine, but it didn't matter cause I used cj lights in my tj and the lens covers covered up the damage. the reason I asked is cause my buddy bought some jk lights and I have to help him with them.

Tying fenders to the frame isn't a good idea unless you have solid body mounts.

I've got a couple of friends that made really cool tube fenders and ran the front onto the frame and into a small stinger. The tub started to tear out around the fender to tub bolts because the tub has bushings under it that allow flex but the fender is hard mounted to the frame. Either both (fender and tub) must be rigidly mounted or both must be bushing mounted. One of each won't work. A properly built frame mounted cage will have bushings between the frame and body.

I keep finding myself returning to this thread with no good reason! I really want these!

With fenders like these, how is driving in the rain? Do you get a lot of water and crap from the road spraying down the side of the vehicle?

I dunno, I just used a fresh new good quality 3 1/8" hole cutter like is in the photo back on page one. Make sure you buy a hole cutter made to cut through steel, not one that is for wood.

How hard was that to find? The only ones that I have ever seen are wood ones. They are very common at places like HD or Lowes since they mostly deal with home stuff.

I would think maybe Sears though. They seem to have more automotive stuff.

We found a 2" RIGID steel hole saw at Home Depot in the drill bits area. It was around 10 bucks. They have a decent selection of wood saws, but also steel hole saws too. Just have to look close on the package, the two styles of saws look the same but are made of different types material.

The thing cuts like butter... the only issue is when it starts to get close to the other side it likes to bind.

Thanks for the replies.

Jerry, it looks like you found the way to put lights in a TJ grille - the JK's! I think if I already didn't have 4" holes in my grille I would be swapping.

morma1 - I have been DD'ing my Jeep ~50 plus miles/day, and it rains alot here in the PNW!! It really isn't as bad as I thought it would be with no flares. Below about 15mph there is some spray that comes off the tires and flies by the sides of the Jeep. If you turn the right amount some of this spray does go onto the windshield, but it does not add much to the rain that is already falling. The Jeep does get dirty quicker though. Even though my tires stuck out past the stock flares, the flares did do a little to block some of the spray.

Digger5 - thanks for the information!

I found mine at a local old tired mom & pop hardware store whose stock isn't all that complete. Certainly Lowes & Home Depot will have them too.

They are great! I am on my second set of stock fenders due to tree and rock tagging (the current ones are also damaged), I had always wanted tube fenders but was afraid of tub damage. (Already have a wrinkle from fender contact with a tree when slipping off a rock while off camber.)

I do still have concern with flex at highway speed, as this is my DD. I do not mean 60 mph either, I am talking about constant 75-80mph for extended periods of time.

I would also like to know if it is capable of holding a bottle of beer, as this is vital for me not setting my Jeep on fire out of frustration during repairs. (I do not support trail drinking)

I will honestly order a set next week if someone can prove/convince me that they will not flex at highway speeds.

Great idea. I'd be in for a set if they were at least as wide as the stock flare. An add-on flare would be hideous.

Thanks, but I wasn't really asking the question so I could find it. I was posing the questions since the need for the metal blade is important. I was trying to figure out how hard it really is to find sicne HD and Lowes seem to cater to wood manipulation, not steel.
