New to jeep. shaking terribly and knocking sound

Hi everyone I bought a 2000 sahara in March. I recently ran into an issue where my car is shaking terribly and making almost like a knocking sound as well as the check engine light came on. I can't figure out what it is. Got a tune up and oil change. Any ideas?

I might be very wrong, but do the motor mounts looks good?

Do you know if the two are related? Do you feel the shaking in the steering wheel?

No not in the steering wheel, the entire car shakes but it doesn't do it all the time

Welcoming to being a Jeeper!!

I've read that if the injectors are dirty they can load up and dump a bunch of fuel at once which would cause a rough idle/jump in RPM's that can cause a shake. The lean/rich condition this would cause could also be the reason for your check engine light. Did you have the code read? Most auto parts stores will do this for you for free these days. You could try a bottle of injector cleaner in the gas tank and see if that helps. Good Luck!

I've experienced an extreme version of what you are describing when I had a blown head gasket. Coolant was getting into the cylinder, causing a terrible misfire, which in turn caused shaking of the entire vehicle.

Pull the plug that is misfiring and shine a very bright light down into the plug hole. If you see green, ouch.

Good luck.
