new fuel sending unit? recall has been done
I have a 97 TJ and my gas gauge doesn't read right, my gas gauge reads about 3/4 full when full and reads empty after I've used about 10 or 11 gallons out of a 15 gallon tank. It had the fuel sending unit replaced under recall in 99, but my question is do I have to replace it again? I know the dealer won't fix it for free since the recall was done already. For now I can live with it, but eventually it would be nice to have a gas gauge that reads correctly.

It's annoying to have to just guess when you get low on gas

Could you fix this in your cluster? First, fill your tank then take your cluster out and move the gas needle to full. See what happens from there?

There's a light??? JK, My 2000 TJ does this now, too. I noticed this weekend that the tank skid is way dented. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

If I fill up right when the light comes on, that's only like 120 miles or something, maybe 130 or 140 at most, I'd like to be able to go farther without just hoping I'm not actually empty

I guess my only real problem is I'm changing engines soon, so I'll have to learn how far I can go on a tank with a 4.6L instead of my 2.5L

I was told that they have a 6 gallon reserve by my mechanic buddy, not sure how true it is but I have noticed it never takes more then 12 or 13 gallons even when it showing empty, even when the light is on...

Maybe that's true, I was thinking because my tank never says full and when I fill up with 11 or 12 I'm going for a while with my gauge on empty

I guess that's the way it's supposed to be, I just figured that it wasn't accurate because it never says full, also I didn't remember my friends 03 doing it.

I just realized you guys are talking about when your light comes on, I'm saying that if I go for a while after the light comes on and push my needle a little below E and I still have 5 gallons left, not when the light comes on, but when I'm all the way at E
