New CV driveshaft blow out!

I just put a AA SYE and a new CV driveshaft on my TJ. The driveshaft was about 1/4" too short, but I thought it might be because I had the tires off the ground. But everything seemed to fit. I just pulled the spline out a little and everything tightened up ok.
But when I took it for a test drive, when I hit about 50 I heard a loud pop in the driveshaft. So I pulled over and looked underneath the Jeep and the CV joint had thrown grease all over the muffler.
What went wrong?

Help!!!

The loud pop could of been anything.
Throwing grease all over the muffler sounds normal.
