New centering ball in Front drive shaft...still angry sparrows!

A few weeks ago, i got the common "angry sparrows" front drive shaft issue. I pulled it off and the noise went away. I took the shaft to a shop and got the centering ball and u-joints replaced. (only charged $65!) One week later, the angry sparrows are back. However, its only above 15 mph and only happens sometimes. The noise doesnt seem to change with the speed either..but it definately sounds like the d*** sparrows again. Any suggestions? The jeep's frame and body mounts rusted away, so I need to part it out... (depressing...only had it 6 months) but ill be driving it for a few more months so id love to kill these birds.

For $65, I doubt the shop did the work you say they did.

(3) u-joints alone is close to $65.

They probably left the centeing ball alone and just greased it as well as they could.

Did you replace just the ball or the whole socket assembly? What brand?

And duralast joints? Really man?

Axle u-joints make the same noise, so I would check those next. Also, when (not if) those Duralast joints fail, buy some other brand. I know they have a lifetime warranty, but I'd rather pay more and not have to replace them every year.

Did they forget to grease the CV's centering joint?

On my new driveshaft, a greaseable Spicer centering joint added $100 to the total cost. Not sure what you got for $60 (including labor).

The expense of a failure so far exceeds the money spent on the centering ball that it doesn't make sense to take risks.

You better be sure, I would check if it is greased. I hate to see you blow your transfer case in half

I replaced everything when it happend to me in 2010, and it went away immediately. I used good U joints though... it was whatever the best kind I could get form AdvanceAuto at the time... I remember the seals and grease being red if that means anything to anyone.

My Centering ball is still squeeking like crazy over 20 MPH, I called the shop and they said "I'm not sure we have a greasable centering ball for that..bring it down." But I might just buy the front shaft of a guy parting out a Jeep near me for $60, i mean, might as well. Probably will be cheaper...
