I don't know stage one and stage two.

But I'm guessing one of them is what is sometimes referred to as an RV cam and decreases valve overlap for more backpressure and more low rpm torque.

And the other increases valve overlap for more efficient high rpm running and more hp at higher rpm.

Is this how it is? If so, which is which?

For the 2.5 I'd want the one that makes more low end torque.

back when i had my 4banger we were going to cam it because its one of the greater power adders for the 4cylinder, but we just ended up selling it because of gas mileage issues

I think im gonna go through with this I'll deffinatley be sure to post back with results..but dont expect anything REAL soon...I have a HUGE list of parts that need to be bought and installed (who doesnt) I have to get a front bumper and fenders on before I do the cam....Not to mention installing my 4 inch lift that ive had for two months

tacoma, take it from me a cam didnt do too much for my 4.0. the only reason i got it was my lifters were going bad and i figured while they were in there, might as well do an upgrade- plus it came as a package. during the summer/late spring i get better gas mileage than i did stock, maybe a couple mpgs. nothing to write home about. but during the winter she kinda blows....

with the 2.5 i heard they take well to all the bolt ons such as chips, intakes, and throttle bodies and spacers, as well as exhaust. i wouldnt do a cam, simply because the cost of doing one isnt worth it in my eyes. i paid almost $1000 for it to be installed, thats a $1000 i could have put towards a bigger lift, winch, etc. just giving you some insight from someone who has been there, done that and got the t shirt.

dont get me wrong it sounds good, but i give credit it to the flowmaster for that...

Remember back at the beginning of this thread, when I said "It's a 2.5L"? Did you notice how many others repeated that same advice? In the end, it's your dollar, if you really want to do it, go for it. But it's still a 4-banger.

I really don't get all the negativity on this site when it comes to engine mods.

Is it your JEEP? No.

Is it expensive? No.

Let the kid have some fun. Maybe we'll learn something.

WTF?

If you don't have power where you need it, regear. You're wasting your time and money doing anything else.

Oh wait, I forgot who I was talking to.

I hear leaf blowers are where its at.

thats pretty much the truth... the only way to increase your power is to get a set of gears that returns it to stock or better than stock. gears will make your jeep faster... the cam wont. ask me how i know..

How do you know?

I can't imagine a cam would do that much really. 5-10 HP max. Barely noticable in a heavy vehicle like the Jeep. Re-gear makes a lot more sense to me as well.

One of the first mods I did was Regear guys. Im as DEEP as I can go with stock axles. 4:88s locked front and rear. It was just a question, because its not gonna cost me much money at all....$70 for the cam, and a few 30 packs for the guys helping me install it....maybe some pizzas too hah. If you REALLY dont think its worth even that, i'll skip it. My TJ gets me where I need to go, and its awsome around town. But Ide like a little more power. Maybe i'll just throw that 4.0 TB/spacer on and see what that does for me. Its suppose to help a little. If im happy with that...i'l finish finding all the parts for my Electric Fan and do that....Maybe the Cam just isnt worth it.

Well..Honestly, it all adds up. Yeah it is only 5-10 HP here, but if you get 5HP form the exhaust, 5 from the intake, 5 from better oil, etc...it can add up to 20+. thats more than a 10% increase in power...
