New cam....gonna give me enough to make it worth it?
I KNOW my 2.5 is never gonna be a tire smokin, fire breathing beast lol...But heres my situation. I have 4:88s and thats as low as I can go unless I go to some waggy dana44s. I have an exhaust and an intake, my jeep actually gets me where im going and I like it. BUT I was wondering, how much will a nice cam do for me? Im getting a 4.0 Tb/spacer, so i figured that...combined with the CAM should give me a nice (noticeable) power increase. I may even do an enitia ring. Any thoughts on the MOPAR 440 cam? I think thats the #

Simple answer: It's a 2.5L.

Like I said, what are you expecting? It's still a 2.5L.

I don't think you'd gain anything worth the cost. A cam is really only going to change where the power comes on, not necessarily give you more power. Maybe it they made a cam to work with an air intake and exhaust you'd get some benefit. But you are talking piddly gains, not worth it imo.

Well a buddy got one...and he said combined with the 4.0 TB and exhaust, he noticed a NICE differance. More low end power, and some high end. SO I wanted to get some more info on them. I really want first hand experiance.

Ignore the 4.0L answers that think they have an edge being the 2nd slowest car on the freeway. Go to this web site dedicated to 4 cylinder Jeeps. There a lot of info on getting as much as 200 hp out of your 4.

Ok then, I'll change my tactic. Even with a 4.0L, I don't expect any performance from my Jeep. It's a Jeep, unless it's a WK SRT8, it wasn't made for speed/performance. My TJ was designed to go anywhere, just not at high speed.

I know that....and eventually I will have a jeep with a REAL motor. BUT I can get a CAM cheap, and install it for free. SO i wanted feedback on it before i put the tj under the knife...again. So please, kindly keep your (its always gonna be slow) comments out. Im just looking for feedback on it.

If you're eventually going to have a REAL motor, why spend any more money on the one you've got? That'd be like me building up my D30 when I'm planning to put in Rockwells.

On a side note between you two arguing like teenage girls, JP Mag did a writeup a few months back on power mods for Jeep motors. They were very pleased w/ the cam swap when they threw it on the dyno for hard numbers (on a 4.0 and 2.5). So if that's the path you want to go, I would bet you see fairly decent gains. As long as you're aware that you're doing it with a 2.5 and not anticipating anything huge. Also, making sure you get the right aftermarket cam would be vital to not just waste money and time for no change.

JP is a little biased towards 4.0L. Again there's a lot of info on the site listed above.

Do it, we all know what answer you want to hear, your just probably not going to hear it. I bet your brain makes it noticable even if its not, so spend the money and know that you did something that you wanted to do with it.
Other than the imaginary gain you feel, no one can honestly say you will gain nothing. Like whats been stated, there have been tests done and the numbers dont lie. I just think you might be expecting more than what your going to get. If i were you, I would call up a company like Hesco and talk to someone that knows for sure, they sell them, they install them, they would know. Hope that helps.
