Need new vapor canister, cant find any new ones

Hello everyone, I have a 97 tj wrangler and its throwing a P0441 code. After looking at a couple of threads I decided to replace the purge valve. Code came back after about 40-50 miles. Took it out and a bunch of charcoal came out. Looks like the charcoal canister is messed up and allowing charcoal to go through the purge valve? Problem is I cant find a new one for sell that is SPECIFICALLY for a 97 wrangler. I saw a thread where they purchased a duralast vapor canister VC120 and its similar enough that it worked on the stock mount. Looks like they no longer manufacture it after visiting autozone. So any suggestions?

Looks like they give used parts though. Also says all sales are final. I want to see if I can get something new that will work.

Rockauto don't have them but Autozone still have them listed as in stock on their website for $55. Perhaps the staff in the store you visited don't know what they're doing.

http://www.autozone.com/engine-manag...er/239708_0_0/

they are also listing Wells VC120 on ebay for store pickup only for $57

It does say in stock online but once you try to pay it says error and to try and order in store. eBay link doesn't let me pay either.

Might try this thread in YJ Tech, we've been there done that on no longer available parts. Maybe you'll find something that works. There are some different part numbers and links in there that could help you out.

Thanks for the link. Someone successfully used the CP1004 vapor canister on their yj. Im assuming it will work on my TJ? Its about 113$.

Using the search tool for standard products listed in the forum I found this one as well:

https://www.amazon.com/Standard-Moto.../dp/B000C7ZA9W

Only 60$ Maybe you can tell me if this one will work too? It has less valves but the one on my TJ only uses two valves with the 3rd one being blocked off.

EDIT: Also found this one for 60$, one two reviewers said it worked with their 91yj and 77 CJ-7. They appear to be universal, so anyone of these will do right?

I used the CP1004 on mine and it worked fine, but I have the 4.2 with a Howell TBI kit. I got mine from Rock Auto for $34, but it seems the prices have gone up. You can see what I did with mine in post #31 in the link I posted before.

Here's the ones listed on Rock Auto now, http://www.rockauto.com/en/partsearch/?partnum=cp1004 There's a 5% off code right now through them too.

I don't know if either of the other two you listed would work or not.

Thanks, ended up ordering this one. Im curios though, how many valves did you use from the vapor canister? For my TJ, there are 3 available, and only two are used.

You can see the three I used in post #31.... http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/v.../#post27597185

I'd assume you'd need the same three. I capped both of the center ports.

Besides the lines going from the purge valve to the canister and fuel tank, what other line was connected to the canister? Which valve did you use to connect the purge valve and canister? I can't really see from the pictures you posted.

This is the 97 TJ vacuum diagram from under my hood. You can see there are only two connections to the canister. For a 97 you need to connect those two hoses and cap any unused ports.

In later years a leak detection pump was fitted that had a connection to the canister.
