Seat Fabric Swap - Nearly Complete
I have a 2005 sport and recently came upon the opportunity to purchase the seat fabric off of a rocky mountain edition. For those of you who have seen the interior of the rcoky mtn edition, you know how cool it is. In my opinion it is better than any after market seat cover i could buy, even though it is all water resistant and stuff.
Anyway. From what I have seen so far, I am going to have to take my seats out of the jeep. and then take them apart to get the fabric off. I havn't found any help on the forums thus far so ANY help would be appreciated. Any issues I should be aware of? THanks in advance for you help.

Not sure about taking them apart, as for taking them out it's a few torx bolts and a few regular bolts for it to all come out of the Jeep.
Fyi - the Mopar seat covers are the same as a RME, except it slips over the factory seats. Love the black/silver combo compared to the rainbow pattern.

you may want to consider..
...having a professional auto shop do this for you. Probably wouldn't cost too much if you took the seats out for them and it would be done right. Good luck.

What little I'm aware of , hope it helps :
You will essentially be peeling the cover off your seats to put the RME covers on . That being said , you will notice the factory uses velcro type strips to secure the cover to the seat foam . This helps the fabric hug the contours of the seat design . You'll need to be careful in that you are separating the hook / loop closures and NOT tearing the strips off the foam . Naturally they will want to tear from the foam as the glue on the foam - velcro ages . I removed the cover from my rear seat and threw it in the washing machine after a blue slushy accident . Just take your time and maybe use a helper Last edited by TJ on the Rocks; 10-25-2005 at 09:36 PM.. |

From what I can tell they are different. I thought they were the same before but you can check the picks for yourself Here is the auction.
http://www.jeepworld.com/accessories/wrangler/seatcovers.htm I think the ones from RME are much better looking but that is just me. As far as having someone do it, what are the dangers I would be avoiding by doing this?

Don't lose the springs or you'll have to visit the Jeep Yeti Parts Guru to find them in DC's e-system.
The average parts clerk will lament your inquiries with whaling and gnashing of teeth and eventually give up, sending you to the Sherpa of parts (probably some retiree with a dozen or so Jeeps that only works one day a week) moral of story is don't lose those springs. ![]()

Alright guys. I got my RME seat fabric today. It's in excellent condition. It took me two hours to put the top covers on the front seats and rear bench! It was a very tedious process. With the help of my awesome wife, I got the rear bottom seat on tonight. I had to take the bench seat apart (just two bolts on either side) to get the bottom fabrics switched. Bottome line. This was one mod that was totaly worth while. My only problem? I am having a bear of a time with the the front bottom seats. They are actually the simplest piece but I cannot get them off of the seat! There is a bar right in the way underneath that will not allow me to unhook the covers! Right in the way! I believe tomorrow morning I'll be taking the seats out to finally get them on. I will have to take a picture of my 2005 sport with RME Seats!
So far after purchasing the jeep in August I have: Swapped the RBK radio out for the RBQ In-Dash Changer. Installed the factory Sirius module. Installed the Tomb Raider Grill guard and front diamond plate skid plate thing. Installed black euro guards on the read lamps. Up next: Rock Sliders. and some bigger tires. Followed by a lift and then, well... bigger tires.
