Clogged radiator, or low on coolent. Dirty nasty coolent which can cause clogged radiator etc.. If rad is clogged then most likely the heater core is too. So be sure to flush the whole system, refill with 50/50 prestone coolent and see if that helps. If not then new radiator is in order. And buy a new raditor cap!

Not real common but I have saw a few water pump impellers either corroded away or slipping on the shaft,Is the fan working properly?

I was not OVERheating, but my scangauge was telling me 230+ degrees under load in hot weather and I could smell coolant from time to time. Today in the workshop they diagnosed "bad water pump" after showing me some white residue from coolant splash on the pulley right above the water pump pulley.
The small leak was just enough to let pressurized coolant escape in very small quantities, causing the engine to heat up. (similar to a bad rad cap)

very subtle but bad enough for a reliable cooling ... I am glad I caught it early

(now VERY curious how the water temps and the auto tranny temps will behave once I get my baby back)
(btw ... I hate that fake temp gauge in newer TJs ... it stays at 210 or slightly above no matter what ... until it is too late and you overheat and blow a gasket or warp a head )

I wouldn't use Prestone coolant. Prestone is a Dexclone and contains sodium 2-ethyl hexanoate just like Dexcool. I do not recomend Dexcool in your Jeep.

Welcome to the board

When you say like crazy . More than before??

Start simple. Fill the system and be sure to Burp the air out.
Note what your temp gauge is when you start to overheat.
What kind of thermo. Some fail right out of the box.
What Temp Thermo?
Did you replace the radiator cap? 18PSI??
When you changed the thermo did you flush the system of just change and refill?
Is it overheating if you just idle or is it at highway speeds...???
