I was not OVERheating, but my scangauge was telling me 230+ degrees under load in hot weather and I could smell coolant from time to time. Today in the workshop they diagnosed "bad water pump" after showing me some white residue from coolant splash on the pulley right above the water pump pulley.
The small leak was just enough to let pressurized coolant escape in very small quantities, causing the engine to heat up. (similar to a bad rad cap)
very subtle but bad enough for a reliable cooling ... I am glad I caught it early
(now VERY curious how the water temps and the auto tranny temps will behave once I get my baby back)
(btw ... I hate that fake temp gauge in newer TJs ... it stays at 210 or slightly above no matter what ... until it is too late and you overheat and blow a gasket or warp a head

)
