Need Help - Interior Door Handle

Hello All,

I just bought some full doors for my 1998 TJ. I need to replace the interior door handle on one of the doors. I was told that the interior door handle from the half doors would work.

I can't figure out how to get the interior door handle off of the half door without breaking them. Can someone help please?

Did you remove the door panel?

I think you'll need to remove the panel to get at the handle.there is a screw in the middle of the handle itself and you should be able to pull it out enough to unhook it from the rods. It might even be possible with the panels on, I haven't tried it to see. You did remove the screw?

Yes, how do you unhook the rod? That is the part I am afraid of breaking.

Ok., I'm back. I did remove the door panel because it makes it easier to reach up behind the handle. Here's what the upper clip looks like when you pull the handle out...

The clip is also a bushing and it snaps around the rod to keep it in place. One side of the clip is grooved, press on that side and it will rotate and release the rod, like so...

The rod can be pulled up out of the hole.do the same for the bottom rod. There are two rods, but they'll really only go into the hole they're supposed to. Since you get it back together, make sure the handle opens the door and locks and unlocks without it feeling like its binding on something.

I took an extra picture so you can see the plastic clip and how it works. Notice one of my clips is broken. It was like that when I got the jeep buy hasn't given me any problems.
