My upper soft door frame just fell apart

The bottom piece of sheetmetal attaching the three bars together has rusted to pieces. I can figure out how to fix it but how do i get the upper door skin off without ruining it. Its a factory top by the way.

Soft Door Frames and Skins

My 97 TJ has the same problem. The drivers side frame bottom edge is 50% rusted away. I purchased a Best Top Sail Cloth replacement. The installation instructions advised to cut the seams to remove the frame. That tells me thats the only way to remove the frame. Check E-Bay for old frames/skins to replace your rusted frame. Good Luck

I dont want to replace the whole frame when i can just as easily cut the rotted metal out and weld new in.

You can find replacement skins cheap on Ebay from where people buy new tops and have hard doors.

Get a needle and thread and give it a try. Seems as though you really don't have much of a choice unless you want to weld with the skids in place.
