So I'm -planning- on lining my Jeep's tub this weekend with U-Pol Raptor. I chose this stuff since it comes with a spray gun, isn't soft like Herculiner, is relatively cheap($100 for the kit), and I REALLY like the results I saw from some other JF members with this stuff. I'm hoping to do all the prep work this Saturday, possibly start spraying Saturday night, and finish it all up Sunday. Then I gotta drive it to work on Monday.
It's got the spray gun, the 4 bottles of stuff, a can of the hardener to activate it, and instructions. I need to go out and buy tons of masking tape and plastic crap to cover things.
Yeah that will work fine. Ask some other guys on the forum....There might be some sort of filter you use? To keep oil and debris out?? Im not sure...maybe thats from my detailing site and might not apply for this application...
How long have some of you had this stuff on your rigs, do you let it set in the sun light for very long with the top off. I dunno about wasting my time with this stuff my a$$ still burns from the last time I tried some do it yourself bed liner. I had a really nice lifted ranger a few years back that I put herculiner in. It looked awsome at first and held up good at first but after about 6 months it started fading in the sun and after a year it started chipping up and yes I prepped it right. It looked so bad after a year that I had to go buy a plastic drop in bed liner.
Herc has a UV top coat now.
also most jeeps dont sit in direct sun all the time. You could always spray a little 303 Aerospace UV protectant every few months....
anyone else have pictures of the tintable version? would like the jeep interior to appear stock, plus i dont really like the black and spice color combination.
I'm thinking about doing this in a few months but had a question about residual smell.
Do any of you that have this notice a smell when running with top up/hardtop on?
My plan is that I would apply this in the summer and run most of the summer with the windows off with the hope that when I put the hardtop on in the winter any smell would be gone.
That's exactly what I did. I think I got down to the stuff to sniff it about every other day, the paint-like smell was gone probably within a week and a half. I didn't put the windows or doors on to fully seal it until it got cooler outside so I didn't really let it "build up" or anything. You'll be fine.

How would the tintable version work w/this U-Pol? I set the tub today & will be painting it, would like to tint it but not sure how since I am not an expert @ painting. Do U just pour some of your paint in tand spray or ........ See sig line for build.
P.S. This will go in the bed of a CJ8 so the sun will be on it all the time.
Definately doing this soon. I have a bunch of this caulk-like rubbery stuff by the rear seat that seems like some sort of sealant, what did you do about that?
Sprayed right over it. It's the factory "seam sealer" which is used for sealing the gaps between pieces of sheet metal. It's not terribly noticable when the whole tub is lined but you could smooth it down if you really wanted to. It's a huge PITA IMO though so didn't bother.
OK, the prep is done for the U-POL Raptor spray in bedliner. I have to wash it tomorrow morning and then tape it off/spray it. I'll post some pics later.
Below are some pics of the POR-15 applied.
Bulkhead
Backside of windshield hinges
Windshield mounting locations
Front cowl. This will stay since it is behind the dash etc.
Drivers side door jamb just above the joint
Bulkhead joint and side walls done
Bulkhead installed
Now here is where I sanded the tub w/180 grit and hand sanded/buffed the tub w/a red Scotch pad per the U-POL instructions. I added the 180 grit, wanted the stuff to stick as good as it can.
Tomorrow I wash the tub, air dry it, tape it off and spray
Sorry for the late response... I just covered the pedals in a bunch of masking tape and went at it as high up as possible, probably about 1- 1.5 feet up.
i am waiting for my herculiner kit to arrive. i did find out that you can spray the herculiner also. got mine from a store on ebay 1 gal plus qt and prep materials for 75 bucks and found a sprayer to on ebay for 20 bucks. i am going to do mine in a week or to will do a photo shoot of it also.
The front of the pedals might not be a bad idea, they get a bit slippery when wet. Anyone try to match the spice sahara interior yet? I'm intrigued to see that, I don't mind black, but if I could match the current interior I'd be ok with it.
OP, thanks again for putting this together, it's on my short list of things to keep my busy this summer.
