Is it my transfer case mounts or tranny mounts?

Would my symptoms be related to tranny mounts or transfer case mounts?

Symptom 1 - When gassing it fairly hard the front driveshaft hits the crossmember on skid plate (didnt do this before only recently. also it's an automatic)

Symptom 2 - Clunking sound when wheeling over rocks and bumps. Sounds like its coming from the tranny area.

Not sure what else it could be.

thanks in advance.

drop trans/t-case crossmember and look at the trans mount. see if the rubber is cracked.

make sure to support the transmission with a jack.

I'm not sure if it's called the "crossmember" but it's the skid plate "arm" in the pic below. You can see the ring from it rubbing in this photo...

Don't think the transfer case has a mount. If not the trans mount check the motor mounts.

that looks wrong. As if you have zero clearance when the axle is drooping...

There isn't separate transmission and t-case mounts, just the transmission mount supported by the belly skid plate.

The stock auto trans skidplate forward of the belly skid needs to be removed with a lift or the driveshaft will rub. Consider picking up an aftermarket trans/engine skid to replace it so you still have something protecting the pan.

Ok that makes more sense.

That's what I thought except I was driving around for a few months and never had the DS rubbing issue until recently.

yup, you need to remove the 42RLE transmission skid with any sort of lift.

Update: So I found the clunking source! I was way off. Turns out it was my rear sway bar link.
I did check the transmission mount and it was good so I just removed the smaller skid.
